Weird and wonderful alt-rock collective, The Flaming Lips recently held two 'Space Bubble' shows in their native Oklahoma City, US.

Audience members sang and danced along to the bands numerous off-kilter pop hits, whilst secured inside one hundred transparent and covid-safe bubbles, at two sold-out shows at the city's premier music venue - The Criterion.

The bubbles, which have long been used by eccentric frontman Wayne Coyne to zorb over the top of audiences at live shows, allow room for up to 3 people and come with equipped with towels, bottles of water, a speaker, which the live music is played through, and signs to let staff know when the occupants are too hot or need a toilet break.

Following a practice run in October 2020, the state's health experts deemed the bubbles safe for public use and the shows were initially booked to take place in December 2020. However, due to Coronavirus concerns, the 'bubbled' live shows were, somewhat ironically, postponed and rescheduled for 2021.

Ahead of the two shows, Coyne took to his own social media platforms to share instructions with audience members on how the bubble pods work. He later shared a video of his young son, Bloom, who was also in enclosed inside a bubble, watching the band perform live from the venues balcony.
