The Last ten Weeks @ Paradise Factory

It doesn’t seem like so long ago when news of a new club in Manchester began to spread in late 2007, and once the festive season had passed firm details came to light: a piece of history was in the making in Manchester.

The team behind the hugely successful Warehouse Project had plans for a smaller, more intimate rave space, and the location was one steeped richly in history, the epicentre of a Mancunian musical movement and foundation for music of the early club music which spread across the UK: The Paradise Factory. Base of the legendary, inspirational and now sadly passed away Tony Wilson, it seemed almost audacious to use such a hallowed venue, one which had never really witnessed the success of years ago. But after months of planning the guys knew they had something special up their sleeves.

Sacha Lord-Marchionne, one of the club’s promoters, says that, “It’s been great. It’s obviously a lot more intimate than the Warehouse Project, so we get to spend more time with people and old faces. The crowd have loved it, week in, week out...and on a personal level, I’m delighted that every student night has sold out. That’s where I started 13 years go so I’ve proved to myself that the old dog still has it in him! You can see how good it’s been good for Manchester. We woke up an old favourite in The Factory offices. After the Warehouse, it was the first opportunity for clubbers to get close to their favourite DJ's again. They have embraced it. The designer, Paul Astill, was a huge Factory fan and has managed to keep the theme running throughout.”   So now, at the mid-way juncture of 112-116’s first season, there has been so much to choose from. Kicking off from Laurent Garnier’s curtain raiser through to a who’s who at the cusp of electronic music – Skream, Steve Angello, Sinden and Herve, Basement Jaxx,  Andy C, Surgeon, Rob Hood, Theo Parrish, Switch, Boxcutter, Magnetic Man, Benga, Zabeila, Alexander Robotnick and Andrew Weatherall barely scratching the surface of what has passed – and there’s so much more to come.

Without doubt 112-116 has targeted the underground, balancing Friday and Saturday sessions by reaching out to talent from far and wide, whilst blessed with great residents and help from local parties who have all brought something extra to Princess Street.   So the first 10 weeks have flown by in a noisy blur, one which has drawn crowds from all over the UK and beyond to experience some of the best aural action the UK has to offer. And with the last ten weekends looming, what else is there to look forwards to?   Of any surprises Sacha cryptically says, “Watch this space, but I’ll have a huge hangover after the closing weekend!”
Below shows some of what’s coming up over the last ten weekends…
