Date published: 31st May 2006
Since it was first added to the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals in 2001 (as the Concrete Jungle Stage), the now Radio One linked Lock Up Stage has been a roaring success. Playing host to the biggest names in punk, emo and ska, the stage has grown year on year, filling up from the moment the doors open and gaining a reputation for being one of the most consistently popular days at the festival.
In discussions earlier in the year with festival goers, The Lock Up Stage was frequently mentioned as one of the highlights of the weekend and, with this in mind, organisers Mean Fiddler are pleased to announce that this year, The Lock Up Stage will run for two days across both sites. On Friday and Saturday at the Reading site and Saturday and Sunday at the Leeds site, the following bands will take to the stage:
FRIDAY 25th AUGUST AT THE CARLING WEEKEND: READING FESTIVAL
SATURDAY 26th AUGUST AT THE CARLING WEEKEND: LEEDS FESTIVAL
SICK OF IT ALL, THURSDAY, HUNDRED REASONS, BOUNCING SOULS, RISE AGAINST, BOYSETSFIRE, BLEEDING THROUGH, LIGHTYEAR, and SEND MORE PARAMEDICS.

THE HEADLINERS
Friday 25th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Satuday 26th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
Over 20 years, SICK OF IT ALL have been one of the main driving forces in the US Punk scene, reflecting the lives of those less fortunate in their native New York and taking aim at the injustices of the western world through numerous albums that almost provide a musical definition of ‘hardcore’. New album, "Death To Tyrants" doesn’t fail on either the musical or political points and their headline shows are guaranteed to be a highlight for many.
Saturday 26th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Sunday 27th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
West coast Ska-punks REEL BIG FISH are one of the biggest names on the scene and, over 14 years and a million combined album sales, the 6 piece have fused the energy of punk and the groove of ska to great effect through countless US and European tours. 2005’s "We’re Not Happy ‘Til You’re Not Happy" showed a band at the height of their powers and that will be reiterated when REEL BIG FISH take to the stage for these headline performances.
THE FULL LINE-UP
Friday 25th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Saturday 26th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
THURSDAY – With new album, "A City By The Light Divided" just in stores, the New Jersey band have taken their hard core roots and, ably assisted by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Sleater Kinney), have built on the sound that saw debut album, "War All The Time", sell over 400,00 copies.
http://www6.thursday.net/thursday
HUNDRED REASONS – With new album, "Kill Your Own" regarded by NME as "Marvellous", Hundred Reasons are back on course to retain the star billing that saw their debut go gold in the UK. Currently on tour with fellow performers, THRICE, HUNDRED REASONS are once again the biggest name on the UK hardcore scene.
BOUNCING SOULS – With new album, "The Gold Record", due in stores on 6th June on Epitaph Records, BOUNCING SOULS are all set to take the LOCK UP STAGE by storm with a new clutch of tunes.
RISE AGAINST - An astounding fusion of unhinged power, ear-grasping melodies, stimulating lyrics and the ability to reach audiences in both underground and mainstream circles, they have redefined punk rock's rules throughout their successful career. In fact, the band's prolific songwriting and captivating shows over the past six years have yielded career sales of over a half-million albums.
BOYSETSFIRE - are generally known as one of the first bands to blend melodic singing and hardcore screaming. Also known for the intensity of their live dates and also the intensity of their political convictions, the Delaware based band recently signed to the independent record labels Burning Heart Records(World)/Equal Vision Records(North America) and released the album "The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years" in February 2006.
BLEEDING THROUGH - Nurtured on the bile of Soilent Green, the aggression of Living Sacrifice, the despair of Joy Division, the heart-on-sleeve polemics of Morrissey, the urgency of hardcore like Cro-Mags and Integrity and the ferocity of black metal, Bleeding Through are one of the heaviest and most uncompromising bands in the US hardcore scene.
http://www.bleedingthrough.com
LIGHTYEAR - have been kicking up a fuss for 3 years with their 7-piece carnival of melodic up-beat ska chaos, pop tunes and the most dangerous brass section on the planet. Nothing can stop LIGHTYEAR constantly gigging; not even blowing up 3 tour vans, breaking 5 limbs and their singer getting married dressed as a clown in a bizarre drunken Las Vegas ceremony all in the space of the last 12 months.
SEND MORE PARAMEDICS - Send More Paramedics are members of the living dead, cannibalistic zombies consumed with an unholy desire to devour living human brains. Their music can best be described as Zombiecore - a hideous fusion of 80s-style thrash metal and modern hardcore punk, contaminated and deformed by an obsessive fascination with zombie b-movies.

Saturday 26th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Sunday 27th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
ANTI FLAG - Not since Rage Against The Machine has there been a band with a more urgent, crucial message. In fact, Tom Morello of RATM and Audioslave had these exact words of praise for the band: "Anti-Flag are the most important emerging band in America. Uncompromising, ferocious and absolutely right. In desperate times like these, the world needs a band like Anti-Flag to set shit straight."
http://www.anti-flag.com/microsite/index.php
MILLENCOLIN – Formed in Sweden in 1992, the four members of Millencolin played over 500 shows through the decade to 1997, releasing three albums through Burning Heart in Europe and then Epitaph in the US. Having taken an indefinite break after that hectic schedule, the band returned in 1999 stronger and have been on the road since, touring on all continents and finding fans wherever they go.
ALEXISONFIRE - rose up out of the Southern Ontario underground in late 2001 like some monstrous and utterly captivating car-accident-in-progress. Hitting the ground with an immediate full head of steam, Dallas, Wade, George, Jordan and Chris have not only impressed the critics with their sour/sweet approach to performance and writing, but are recognized for their stellar musicianship, and the palpably pent-up tightness of the band live.

HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS - Hawthorne Heights was formed from big dreams – its members wanted to play music they were passionate about and take a shot at being a full time band. With a debut album that has now sold over 850,000 copies worldwide, they headlined the sold-out Victory Records Tour 2005 (making their UK live debut), and went on to be main support on the huge sold-out Kerrang XXV Tour in January 2006 alongside Bullet From My Valentine. Their latest album If Only You Were Lonely debuted at #3 in the US Billboard charts in February.

AGAINST ME! - Although based out of Gainesville, Florida, it’d be more true to say that since 2001 Against Me! has been a band of the highway systems. Their history can be found on the road, having been in near-constant motion the past five years, with tours of Japan, Australia, Canada, and Europe under their belts.
CAPDOWN – Short for Capitalist Downfall, CAPDOWN wear their political hearts on their sleeves but the Milton Keynes Ska-core band are as well known for their riotously uplifting gigs as their deeply held political beliefs.
THE BLED - Bands usually seek to do one of two things: define their genre, or defy their genre. However, since bursting out of Tucson, AZ in 2001 with their unique mix of hardcore brutality and an eclectic musical palette, THE BLED have done both. With the release of the "Found in the Flood" — the band’s second full-length and first for Vagrant Records—The Bled have set themselves apart from the hordes of bands joining the hardcore fray, in the process forging their own place in the musical spectrum.
http://thebledsite.com/index2.html
PARAMORE - describe their music with three words: energetic, emotional and fun. Their explosive live performances showcase the band’s precocious musical talent and infectious hooks with 17-year-old Hayley Williams’s openhearted vocals soaring to connect with the audience and ensuring that everyone is enjoying themselves as much as they are.
CAPTAIN EVERYTHING - are three friends who write songs about their lives. They like melody, choruses, mid-90's pop-punk & playing really fast. They also love to tour, having played over 600 shows in their seven years as a band, in places as diverse as; Montreal, Moscow, Tokyo and Scunthorpe. New album, "Buena Vista Bingo Club" is due just before the festivals.

ADEQUATE SEVEN - are a seven piece funk punk band from the UK who blend music styles such as hip hop, hardcore, punk, funk and ska. Having toured with fellow Lock Up kids such as Hundred Reasons, Capdown and Lightyear, the band are already a well known name to those in the scene.
ADDITIONS TO OTHER STAGES
ON THE MAIN STAGE!!!!
Friday 25th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Saturday 26th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Following their triumphant set last year on the Radio1 stage the TOWERS OF LONDON make their Main Stage debut at the festival. It seems a long time since they famously joined The Rakes/Maximo Park and Bloc Party for a roof raising version of 22 Grand Job which proved to be the defining moment of last years event. Since then the Towers have been bothering the charts with their own brand of party punk rock with singles ‘Air guitar’ and ‘How Rude She Was’ and generally bothering people by against all odds still being together/alive/out of jail. Debut album ‘Blood Sweat And Towers’ is due for an imminent release and band are soon to be hitting the small screen when their own TV series ‘The Towers Of London’ launches in August.
Saturday 26th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Sunday 27th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
AIDEN – Hailed by Kerrang! Magazine as "Our generation’s new kings of pain", 2006 has truly been Aiden’s year. As part of the Kerrang XXV Tour in January, the Seattle horror-rockers wowed sold-out crowds with their infamous awe-inspiring live show, and became Kerrang cover stars in February. With their first visit to the twin sites playing favourites from their current album "Nightmare Anatomy", Aiden are truly taking the world by storm!
Sunday 27th August at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Friday 25th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE join the Main Stage bill.
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE have not merely become standard-bearers for GENERATION HEAVY. Last album 'The End of Heartache’ pushed standards aside, brilliantly expanding upon both the rage and the melody present within the aggressive music genre with decisive urgency. Heavy music was, once again, re-ignited by a band unafraid to rewrite the rules of the game. With critical raves that soar above mere hackneyed "acclaim" (including a Grammy nomination) and a hard-earned reputation as one of the genre’s best live acts, don’t miss them! Killswitch Engage release a new album in November.
Having signed a deal with Maverick Records in 2003, STORY OF THE YEAR burst onto the scene with debut album, "Page Avenue". Achieving platinum sales for their debut and taking the 2004 Vans Warped Tour by storm in their native US, the band then stayed on the road through to the end of the year before returning to the studio to record "In The Wake Of Determination". Released last year, the album saw them build on their considerable profile and their energetic set in last years' Taste of Chaos tour, won them a new legion of UK fans who are sure to be at the front for these performances.
ON THE RADIO ONE / NME STAGE!!!

Saturday 26th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
Combining a harmony pop sensibility to rival the Magic Numbers with My Bloody Valentine style soundscapes, FIELDS are already shaping up to be one of the most talked about bands of 2006. FIELDS exist permanently in a world where its 6pm on a summer’s day and the sun is just about to go down over the village hedgerow. Albeit a village where the houses have plasma screen TV’s.
DUELS hit like at atom bomb. Gigging furiously through the winter of 2004 they were snapped up by Nude Records within months and no time was wasted in recording their scintillating modern classic of a debut album ‘The Bright Lights And What I Should Have Learned’ – imagine ‘Ziggy Stardust’, in full clobber, on an ASBO rampage round a Wakefield council estate with The Psychedelic Furs. They plan to reinvigorate the music industry by releasing two albums every year but until then they firmly believe "this album is God, it’s the Bible, it’s all we’ve got, it’s the most important thing in the world."

Friday 25th August at the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
THE MARSHALS are a ticking rock grimebomb waiting to explode under the haircut's' drug bands of the current UK scene. The devil-possessed poise of The White Stripes, the melodic clout of pixies and the heart-strung passion of every lost romantic who ever struck a guitar in anger, The Marshals are holding a one-way ticket to God knows where, but - they're not coming back. You'll love them. It's scorched on the stars....."""""
STILL TO COME...
THE COMEDY STAGE – The best comedy, cabaret and outright strangeness to complement the bands and also offer late night entertainment.
THE CARLING STAGE – The cream of the new bands, the "ones to watch". There for you to watch on one stage for three days.

This is no talent quest - just an opportunity for bands or individuals from all walks of life to have a thrash on stage in front of a huge festival crowd at the Nokia 'Rock Up & Play' tent.
As well as live DJ sets, free music downloads, the Nokia 'Rock Up & Play' tent will also be hosting a series of artist Q&A sessions again. This year's line up of special guests will be revealed nearer the time and the sessions are a must for anyone who's ever had trouble bashing out that tricky D13th chord, wanting to know how to get ahead in the industry or just wanting to get up close and personal with top music talent.
