Ibiza is really hotting up in August, and that's not just the weather. I can remember being struck down with jealousy about not being able to sample any of the genius of July, but now that jealousy has got a whole lot worse.
I could basically set up camp in the Space car park in August and that would do me. It feels pretty rude to pick out highlights from it - there is no disgrace in not making the cut here - but the biggest news is probably Loco Dice's single appearance on the island this summer, on Sunday August 10th.
But let's firstly toast We Love's opening gambit for the month on Sunday August 3rd. It isn't as chock full as some of their others, but to me it is very We Love in the sense that they're not afraid to mix it up a bit.
In La Terraza Skream in the same room as Ame and Dense & Pika is a good meeting of two worlds, and combines nicely with the upbeat party vibe of DJ W!ld and Joris Voorn on the Terrace. (Hear Skream on Radio 1 below)
There are two special guests as yet unannounced to look out for, and don't forget Alfredo on the top floor, the Premier Etage.
Even I am not old enough to claim to be inspired by him, but he provided the soundtrack to that famous lads' holiday in the late 80s that prompted the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and Nicky Holloway to come back to London and copy the Balearic formula. Had they not done that, then all those Brits intent on caning it on holiday would probably have done it somewhere else, and Space would not have grown into the absolute machine it is today.
Continuing the history lesson, Glitterbox is at Booom on Saturday August 9th are kicking a bit of ass with a Frankie Knuckles tribute that brings David Morales, Hector Romero and Quentin Harris under one roof. Wall to wall soulful-ness!
And if you miss that one, fear not for they've got Hercules & Love Affair, Todd Terry and Horse Meat Disco the following week for what will be the most joyous of music all night.
And we've got another slab of NYC with Tribal Sessions at Sankeys on Wednesday August 6th with Danny Tenaglia. It will probably be a nice long set from him - they're always unmissable.
So it's back to the Space domination… chronological order is the only way to split these up without offending anyone. So there is that much-anticipated and aforementioned Dice party - the We Love Loco Dice Birthday Takeover to be precise - where he is joined by techy luminaries like tINI, , Josh Wink and Chris Liebing, and then both Martin Buttrich and Guti playing live.
Expect a bit of one-in one-out on the door if you turn up late for that one. Hear what it sounded like when Buttrich and Dice teamed up on Dice's radio show below:
Or you could just go next week where We Love have nailed it again with Disclosure headlining and Skream back again, but then just next door on the Terrace you have Henrik Schwarz and Carl Craig among others.
Henrik's set at We Love last year, where he also appeared with Carl Craig, was the best set I saw in the whole of 2013. He gets the vibe of the Terrace better than almost anyone.
That man Tenaglia is one man who may argue with that, so it was good of We Love to chuck him on the Terrace a week later on Sunday August 24th. And if you're not interested in the Tenaglia V Schwarz Terrace battle, there's always Sasha, Julio Bashmore, Catz n Dogz, Hot Since 82 and Paul Woolford to keep you occupied.
But up on the rails for this month's Golden Ticket is Richie Hawtin's ENTER at Space on Thursday August 21st. Quality not quantity is the order of the day here - Sven Vath, Hawtin, Maceo Plex, Claude VonStroke and Dubfire. Get on that! Grab your tickets at the bottom of this article.
Final mention though, goes to This Is Hard Rock Hotel on August 22. If we got board of giving out golden tickets and instead gave out a random ticket, this would win it by a street. Not only is this actually taking place at a different hotel (Ushuaia), it has the following headliners: Kylie Minogue, Pete Tong, and Heidi. Enough said.
