The Playground returns to hit up the supercool KOKO venue on August 16th, with a shed load of techno and acid house greats called in to take charge of a scorching summer time rave.
Detroit techno innovator Derrick May leads the charge, with his finely honed percussion heavy, floor-focused sound in full effect. As one of the famous Belleville Three (alongside Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson) Derrick May is rightly classed as one of the forefathers of the music we know and love as techno.
His years in the business mean he knows exactly what it takes to get a dancefloor into a frenzied furore, with a sound that is tough and uncompromising, whilst at the same time intoxicating and accessible. Check out the master at work in his Boiler Room appearance to see for yourselves.
A true British dance music hero joins him in the shape of acid house legend A Guy Called Gerald. The Manchester native needs little introduction, with his prominence in the scene starting immediately with his first release 'Voodoo Ray' - a track that still causes carnage on a worldwide scale.
Equally adept at creating acerbic acid house as he is off kilter drum n bass, A Guy Called Gerald has continued to push his sound in exciting new directions, with his live sets now showcasing a groove filled, eccentric take on house and stripped back techno. His appearance in the Boiler Room above pretty much sums up why he continues to be in such high demand.
The extensive line up also sees the addition of bass obsessed Barem, Death in Vegas main man Richard Fearless, a live performance from French Kiwi Juice, Last Magpie and Symmetry. Bag your Playground tickets here.
