Theatre shows have seriously grown in popularity these past few years. And with something for everyone, it’s obvious why. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic, love a good giggle, like to get lost in deep thought, or just want a jolly singalong, there are plenty of UK theatre shows to suit you.
We’re sure you’re as eager as we are to check out the best of the best, so let’s get straight to it. Here are some of the best theatre shows across the UK this year, broken down by region.

Austentatious: An Improvised Jane Austen Novel

Award-winning smash comedy Austentatious is now showing every Monday at the Arts Theatre in London. The show is entirely improvised by a title given by the audience in period costumes and live music to accompany it all. Since it’s improvised and the cast revolves, you could go more than once as no two shows will be the same. The only similarity is that you’ll be wishing you brought a spare pair of pants each time as you’ll be dying of laughter.

A legendary show that first hit that stage back in 1943, Oklahoma! was not only a smash hit back then, but it has maintained its legacy as one of the greatest musicals up until this very day. The multi-award-winning show has returned for a strictly limited West End season following sold-out runs on Broadway.
For those unfamiliar with the story, Oklahoma! is the story of a community that bands together against an outsider, only this version has been reimagined for the 21st century. With plenty of awards and countless fans behind it, you’ll have to see it for yourself to appreciate how genius it really is.

Another truly legendary show, Wicked has gobsmackingly secured over 100 major international awards over the years, including three Tonys, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy, and eleven WhatsOnStage Awards. You genuinely don’t get any more iconic than this.
The twelfth longest-running show in West End history is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire. Wicked imagines the backstory and futures of the lives of the famous characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, revealing the story of how two university friends grew to become Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Easily one of the best theatre shows of all time, if you fancy a bit of this, you’d better act quickly!

Living on a Sheffield council estate, Jamie New doesn’t exactly fit in. destined for big things, Jamie beats prejudice and bullies with the help of his supportive mum and friends. Full of pop bangers and a heartwarming message, this is the kind of story we’ll be talking about for years and years.

The musical is based on real people aboard the ship, detailing the hopes and dreams of the passengers leading up to their early demise. With Third Class immigrants who dream of a better life, the Second Class imagining joining the rich and famous in America, and the millionaires of the First Class expecting their legacies to live on forever, the story reveals the stark differences of those aboard who, in the end, all suffered the same terrible fate.
