In the world of cult films few directors have inspired as much reverence as John Carpenter. During the 70s and 80s he delivered a slew of masterpieces in the horror and science fiction genres, birthing the fearsome Mike Myers in Halloween, pre-dating The Matrix's simulation theory musings with They Live, and creating one of the most well-loved martial arts films of all time with Big Trouble in Little China.
One of the key tenets of Carpenter films has been the score, often composed by himself which feature extravagant synths adding to the cult dystopian feel of many of his works. It's ensured he's found a place in art and popular culture too, with one Liverpool venue hugely influenced by his masterpieces.
