Often regarded as the clubbing capital of the North and more excitingly 'The Berlin of The UK', Leeds has gone all out to offer their faithful a sublime October program. With events from all walks of the dance music genres planning right the way through till January, there simply has been no stone left unturned.
As the freshers month slowly winds down and the spritely students find their way after a somewhat heavy couple of weeks, Leeds will open up to a more underground market. Whether it’s an eye opening super club, a dark and dingy basement or a tightly tuned speaker system, the city that never sleeps literally covers all your musical needs.
Starting with the aforementioned super club, Control continues it’s opening run of form who on 4th October will offer a selection of deep house and disco cuts from the one of the world’s finest performers Solomun. The Dynamic front man will not travel alone, he will bring along label mates H.O.S.H and Stimming for the ride too. Just the day after, Warehouse, nearly 35 years to the good, have asked the outspoken legend DJ Sneak to the illustrious venue for the Moda Black showcase (October 5th).
Everyone’s favourite hang-out Distrikt, also known for their packed houses, have not only managed to fly over one of the legendary Murk boys, but both. This will be sure fire winner for the old school house heads out there that can still cut the mustard with the young guns. The duo that brought us some of the most famous house slabs of all time will play an intimate 400 capacity throwdown on Friday 18th.
We begin to say a final farewell to one of Leeds most renowned soirees Louche before they head to Berlin. They have brought in Move D and Floating Points on October 19th to their beloved home The Mint Club. As Halloween hovers over us, mono_cult are offering an exclusive all-nighter with techno stalwart Dixon on 26th, whilst Basics will also host an intimate show of their own on the same date when they bring back 'Underground Paris' for the latest instalment in the series. This will take place at the award winning Garage.
As if it wasn't enough Louche bidding us a goodbye, Asylum will finally end their 10 year career on 26th with a double pronged attack from Kerri Chandler and disco junkies Crazy P. All though Halloween generally brings out the spooks and ghouls, expect a tear to be shed as Leeds loses one of its greatest ever parties.
Finally my golden ticket for the golden ticket for the month. If Drum and Bass in your thing, the historic dwelling that is Leeds University will host Drum Sound and Bassline Smith on 29th. The duo are currently on their 'Wall of Sound' album tour so expect some rip roaring bass heavy shenanigans coming from the Stylus basement.
