A constant in dance music, prolific house DJ and producer Marc Kinchen has been a pioneer of the genre since the early 90s. Not only does his back catalogue boast a string of chart topping productions for Hollywood A listers, he is also the undisputed master of the remix.

Never afraid to experiment with different sounds, his reworks are consistently propelled into the mainstream, becoming summer anthems on the regular.

Ahead of his set at We Are FSTVL for Defected, MK talked us through his top five remixes. Grab We Are FSTVL tickets below.

5. Sam Smith - 'Pray'

'I have always been a sucker for a great gospel choir vocal, so when someone like Sam Smith brings in a gospel choir on one of his songs, you know I am gonna be like, "ahem I can do that".  I literally went into the studio and practically closed my eyes, the music just led me.'

4. Lana Del Rey - 'Blue Jeans'

'The first time I heard her vocals on this song, I knew that i had to remix it and I knew exactly what i wanted to do. (I did another two remixes for her, but i think Blue Jeans is my fave)'

3. Wankelmut & Emma Louise - 'My Head is a Jungle'

'Another example of how I cannot resist an amazing vocal. Once I stripped away the original elements of the production, my hands and ears just did the rest, that is when you know a remix is going to be really special. I go into the studio and it just happens, I hear it in my head and then do my best to put it through to the finish point.'

2. Jodeci - 'Freak ’n' You'

'This is one of my favorite five remixes because I was a huge Jodeci fan and the vocals were so good, I knew I had to chop them up…. every freakin night and every freakin day, those vocals. I still play it today'

1. Nightcrawlers - Push The Feeling On (Dub of Doom)

‘This is my Number one favorite for more than one reason,  it was the remix that really changed my life and career. I never even heard the original, I only had the vocals. I went into the studio created my own track for it and used the vocals in a way that people say became my signature. I was really happy about how it came out and can still reference my original Dub Of Doom as being one of my favourite remixes'
