Former electrician and proud Scouser Jamie Webster has taken the music world by storm. After penning tunes sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs tunes about his hometown, relationships, lockdown, and three-day benders, Jamie’s music has secured fans of all genres along the way.
His first album, We Get By, topped the UK Official Folk Album Charts last year And after releasing his second brilliant album, Moments, earlier this year, this passionate poet is showing no signs of slowing down.
Ahead of some upcoming performances across the UK, we took a look at his five best tracks. But we can’t lie, it was difficult to narrow it down to five.
Going Out
Taken from his second album Moments, Jamie tells the all too relatable story of being locked indoors during lockdown when all you want, all you need, is to go out and live your life.
About the song and album, Jamie said: "[young people] have had so little support, their own pains weren’t addressed during lockdowns, and nobody came out on their side or [tried] to change things, so Going Out is about understanding why rules are broken."
This Place
Jamie clearly has a remarkable way with words and huge adoration for his hometown, Liverpool. And This Place is an ode to that incredible city. “This city will forever be my saving grace. So no matter where I am, I'll raise a glass to this place”, he sings in a thick accent as a dreamy keyboard kicks in.
Weekend In Paradise
One of his key tracks with over 11 million plays on Spotify, Weekend In Paradise details the story of going on a three-day bender and wondering whether or not it was worth it. Despite commentating on a bleak topic, Jamie managed to make the song poetic while still warning, “it all creeps up on ya in between”. Starting stripped down before kicking off, it’s definitely a highlight at his gigs.
What I Know
Taken from Back Pages (B-Sides EP), What I Know, stands out from the rest of Jamie’s tunes. Most noticeably, it has an almost Spaghetti Western lead guitar with lots of wah and reverb. It’s one of his rockier tracks and suits his style beautifully.
Allez Allez Allez
Is this the best footie song ever written? We’ll leave you to decide, but we reckon it’s definitely up there. Yet another banger, Jamie penned a cracking tune using the chant that every Liverpool FC fan is familiar with. It’s the kind of track that would make any Scouser proud to be from Liverpool and proud of their team.
“We've conquered all of Europe, we're never going to stop. From Paris down to Turkey, we've won the f*cking lot”, he sings with his full chest.
Jamie has already made an incredible name for himself. And with his brilliant second album, Moments, it seems this skilled poet and songwriter is just getting started. You can catch Jamie performing his invigorating tunes in Leeds, Belfast, and Cardiff. With loud crowds backing him and a huge career ahead of him, they'll be gigs to remember.
