Under the spotlight: Freya Ridings
Yep, that's right, Freya Ridings is back and ready to hit her 2023 festival forays head-on. In preparation, we wanted to shine our spotlight on her; particularly her set at Highest Point Festival!
Date published: 29th Mar 2023
Freya Ridings is the unabridged UK Queen of heartfelt ballads and purveyor of all things emotionally resonant! With her enchanting voice, spellbinding performances, and her sophomore record on the way in May, Freya is one of the hottest pop prodigies in the UK scene at the minute.
But, with a smattering of shows to choose from this festival season, you may be hard-pressed to figure out where exactly you’ll be seeing her. However, we think there is one place that stands out amongst the rest, and that is her slot at Highest Point Festival in Lancaster this May - a slot that almost coincides with the release of her second record.
Hailing from the musical melting pot of London, Freya has been making waves since her live albums came out in 2017 and 2018, but it was the release of her self-titled debut record in 2019, which is now Platinum-selling, that she started turning heads. Tracks like her heart-wrenching debut hit "Lost Without You" and the anthemic failed relationship fable “Castles” quickly shot her to UK sad pop superstardom. The songwriting showcased in this earlier work proved she was a talent, with tracks that effortlessly took us on a journey of love, loss, and everything in between. A really hard thing to do in the era of the modern love song.
Her musical style has followed suit ever since and with singles like “Face in the Crowd” and “Weekends” from her new record Blood Orange now out in the ether, it's clear that the time off has seen Freya take huge strides to perfect her blend of soulful pop and piano-driven melodies; all whilst maintaining the dash of heartache she loves to submit us to (and we welcome openly with welling eyes).
Yet, whilst her music speaks volumes of her talent, she has captured just as many hardcore fans through the sheer quality of her live performances, and the buzzing word-of-mouth support that follows. Freya pours her heart and soul into every note she sings and is followed in tow by a band capable of musical wizardry. All of which is mesmerically captured in the two live records she released before her debut.
So, get ready to have your heart stolen and your ear drums indulged, then you quite simply have to catch Freya Ridings when she heads out to festivals around the country this summer. But, with the gorgeous Williamson Park on its side, and a stacked undercard on the day, we can't look past her slot at Highest Point Festival in 2023 when looking at the places she's playing. Bring your tissues, bring your dancing shoes, and most importantly, bring your love for a damn good time. Trust us, this is one artist you don't want to miss!
