Manchester's music scene is unequivocally thriving, and one of the venues that continues to be a touchstone in the city's sonic fabric is Gorilla. Having already hosted the likes of Dead Prez, Mano le Tough, Prosumer, Friendly Fires and Joris Voorn, Gorilla's eclectic, discerning music policy continues to throw up some of Manchester's most exciting music spectacles. We peer into March to see who Gorilla will be inviting under the archways of Whitworth Street.
Forward thinking house music specialists iDiOSYNC continue in their rich vein of form by teaming up with Stem to bring Avatism and Clockwork to Gorilla. As two of the most exciting, left of field producers in the field, the duo are guaranteed to dispatch a brains and brawn set that is both visceral and cerebral, in their own inimitable fashion. Check out their storming Sonar set from 2013 (above), it's a peach.
Label of the moment Hot Creations will be fully represented by label favourites Richy Ahmed and wAFF at Kaluki on Saturday 8th. As the undoubted scene leader in the burgeoning deep house movement, Lee Foss and Jamie Jones' imprint is inescapable, and Ahmed and wAFF remain integral part of its global dominance.Get your ears around Richy Ahmed's flawless Boiler Room Ibiza set (above) to remind yourself just why the Hot Creations crew are as lauded as they are.
Mvson returns with Innervisions favourite Ten Walls lined up for one of their wicked live performances. With their Gotham EP being one of the biggest records of last year, Marijus Adomaitis and Mario Basanov meticulous production techniques earnt them widespread underground house reverence. Dusseldorf's Alex Niggemann joins them.
Radio One taste maker Danny Howard returns to Gorilla with his Nothing Else Matters party on the 22nd. The Dance Anthems figurehead will be joined by London techno and bass music duo Toyboy & Robin (above), Defected records house and garage double team Gotsome (behind the cracking 'Bassline), and Mark Knight tipped vocal house jacker Weiss.
The end of March sees Norwegian house superstar Finnebassen descend into the underground. The Scandinavian exponent of bass heavy melancholic house (check out his 'Touching Me' record below) has long since been a permanent feature in the UK, with his vocal lead smooth and sophisticated sound striking a chord with house music obsessives across the country.
As the totem of the UNderground agency form which the night emerges, he's better placed than any to present the electronic veneer they bring. The Mekanism and Paul Kelly join him for an irresistible line up of sexy, low slung, dance floor dynamite.
