WOMEX brings world music-inspired electronic music to Manchester this weekend

WOMEX (Worldwide Music Expo) is the world's most international and culturally diverse music meeting and the biggest conference of the global music scene. This year, WOMEX comes to Manchester, taking over the O2 Ritz with two Club Summit parties this weekend, Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October 2024. 

Every October WOMEX sees over 2,600 music professionals - including 260 performing artists - unite from 90 different countries, coming together for a trade fair, talks, films, and music showcases. 

WOMEX’s music spectrum is incredibly vast, embracing many genres from across the globe. Taking over the legendary Ritz this weekend with their Club Summit parties, WOMEX will showcase DJs and electronic artists from across the globe who blend traditional music with contemporary sounds. 

First up, on Friday, WOMEX brings us D[Nowhere]J and Godblesscomputers. 

D[Nowhere]J, hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa, combines their styles to create electrifying sets featuring the infectious and raw beats of Gqom music. Bologna-based producer Godblesscomputers explores electronic territories while preserving the groove and warmth of his artistic identity while implementing jazzy samples and harmonies.

Next up, Saturday night brings us sets from Lenhart Tapes, Maraboutage presents "Indigo, The Cabaret Club", and MPeach. 

Serbia’s Lenhart Tapes is adored for his striking live performances. Using Walkmans as his instruments, he crafts live mixes by layering selected material from his cassette collection over original rhythmic loops. 

Hailing from Marseille, Maraboutage is a collective that creates vibrant fusions of eclectic rhythms and grooves. Their new show "Indigo, The Cabaret Club" blends multiple artistic disciplines including music, dance, set design, performance, costumes, and DJ sets, building on their already incredibly captivating, interactive show. 

Vocalist, producer, DJ, and audiovisual artist MPeach, also known as Mariana Martin Capriles, hails from Venezuela. Intertwining bass-heavy electronic sounds while exploring the sounds of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa, she honours traditional folk sounds while adding irresistible grooves.
