With Independent Venue Week not too far away (it takes place between Monday 29th and Sunday 4th February), here at Skiddle we're getting extremely about the forthcoming seven day event - with some members of staff heading across the UK to some of these brilliant venues to catch some brilliant acts in action.

For one of our members of staff, Matt Murphy, he will be solely immersed in the action as his band, Preston outfit Building Giants, have a duo of Independent Venue Week dates - coming to Northwich's The Salty Dog on Thursday 1st February and Liverpool's The 27 Club on Friday 2nd February.

We spoke to Matt about the importance of Independent Venue Week, and how grassroots talent relies on these creative spaces to thrive and improve,and what the implications would be should they close down, which they are doing at an alarming rate.
