Sundays at Space are dominated by one of the world's biggest clubbing brands, We Love. Sporting a wide selection of DJs across a range of different styles of electronic music, the night always manages to boast something for everyone. Tonight was no different, bolstered by James Zabiela, Joris Voorn and Technasia (to name but a few) headlining across the terrace and the main room, with everything from deep house to gangster rap around the rest of the club.
We arrived to find Kölsch performing a live set on the Terrace, and were locked in from the start. Although on relatively early he took a no nonsense approach, clearly proud to showcase his work to a crowd who were loving every second. Any regular of the Kompakt label is bound to serve up very pleasant, feel good techno, but Kölsch was something else with a high energy ensemble of hands in the air tunes.
His set was layered with euphoric synths and electronic build ups, along with a personal interaction with the crowd that gave a sense of unity within the room. After a quick dance on top of the decks which really got everybody going, Kölsch finished with one of his biggest tunes to date 'All That Matters', seeing a class set off in style and setting spirits high that we would take with us for the rest of the night.
Deetron was up next with a deeper take, however continuing the theme of electronic synths in the form of his own remixes like that of George Fitzgerald's 'Every Inch'. Meanwhile, Technasia was smashing out much more powerful tech house in the main room. Booming bass and melodic percussion true to the Cadenza style was the flavour, including a huge remix of Cesar Merveille and Pablo Cahn's 'Tribute', all complimented by high end lasers and ambient colours that clouded the huge room.
Back on the Terrace, Deetron was finishing his own set with a remix of Derrick May's classic 'Strings of Life' before handing over the reins to We Love favourite and tech house maestro Joris Voorn. As usual Voorn's efforts were lapped up, and true to his nature he impeccably mixed a selection of some of the best tech house music, some old and some new, some techy and some groovy.
The Terrace was rammed for the occasion as we all lapped up treats like Tori Amos' classic 'Professional Widow', Joris Voorn's own Ibiza anthems like 'The Tide' and what is becoming one of the biggest tunes of the summer, The Martinez Brother's remix of Santos Resiak's 'A Better Light'. It had been a magical place all night on that Terrace but Voorn really did own it - it was as if the room had been made with him in mind. Maybe it was.
Last but not least was James Zabiela, who served his faster and more bass driven style of techno to those that were still trooping on in the club, ready to stomp on until the end. Big build ups carried us along and kept us busy, transfixed on the floor till the very end. Is there a better way to spend a Sunday than embattled on the Space dancefloor?
