Weekends Matter Newsletter - 6th May

Jimmy's back with a, sort of, politically themed newsletter for this week.

Eurgh, severe post bank holiday blues on the go with weather a la Glastonbury 2007. At least there's a more positive flashback from that year - The Who are back at Worthy Farm for a Modtastic Sunday.

Festivals

There's been a fair bit more activity on the news front, with Bestival, Wickerman and Latitude announcing even more names, and Reading Festival giving you the chance to play there.

We've picked some expected high points of this year's Detonate and Sound City, caught up with the brains behind Alfresco and last weekend got out to our first festival - read our Sounds from the Other City review.

Clubs

Seeing as voting is very topical and all, check our Manchester top ten clubs list based on your reviews - see that here. One of those, The Roadhouse, is now sadly coming to an end, but it's not all doom and gloom - The Rainbow in Birmingham have a new space; Nina Kraviz will play the launch.

Elsewhere Seth Troxler's Acid Future boasts a huge line up, likewise Drum&BassArena at Heaven, and this week we got excited about new music from The Chemical Brothers, disco don Late Nite Tuff Guy heading this way and Glitterbox finding a new Ibizan home in Space.

Live Music

Nineties indie fans rejoice, Shed Seven and Black Grape are both off on big tours shortly, whilst former La's frontman John Power will play an intimate homecoming at Liverpool's Kazimier. Also in the city, we took a look at promoters du jour Evol.

Electronic whizz East India Youth is on the road, Jess Glynne is off to the North East whilst grime fans can look forward to Kano hitting Sheffield. And Ibiza may be the primary domain for clubs, but there's some brilliant live music on offer at Ibiza Rocks this year.

That's me done for the week, I'm off to place my vote tomorrow. All of us at Skiddle implore you to make your voice count too - maybe even dubstep pioneer Artwork has the answers...
