Leeds 24-hour electronic music festival, inner city electronic, have announced plans to pay tribute to the late Andrew Weatherall.
The legendary DJ and producer was due to talk and play at the multi-venue event on Saturday 7th March, however, he sadly and unexpectedly passed away earlier this month in London following a pulmonary embolism.
Now the 56-year-old, Berkshire-born pioneer, known affectionately as The Guv'nor, will be honoured with a special talk - 'A Tribute to Andrew Weatherall (Fail We May, Sail We Must)' - at Leeds College of Music from 6pm.
The event will bring together a number of Weatherall's long-time friends and musical partners, including Chris Madden, Justin Robertson, Sean Johnston and Joe Muggs.
They will discuss the great man's 'outstanding contribution to music and culture' and playback a selection of his finest musical memories.
DJ and I.C.E. co-founder Ralph Lawson said:"Everyone is still reeling from the loss of Andrew Weatherall last week. It’s been hard to take in the magnitude of his passing, with major features on BBC News and Channel 4, national newspaper articles from The Observer to The Times and every major music publication.
"Weatherall truly transcended our little scene. Most heartwarming of all was the constant stream of stories that flowed and flowed until our social media feeds became a torrent of outpouring love for the man.
"Andrew was booked to perform, as well as take part in our conference programme at inner city electronic 2020. We knew that we would like to honour him, but it’s been an extremely difficult week for everyone to process. However, the response has been phenomenal with friends traveling in from across Europe to make its happen.”
The 2020 inner city electronic programme includes headline sets from Peggy Gou and Orbital, talks and masterclasses from the likes of Mr Scruff, Detroit In Effect, Kosh and Weirdcore (the visual artist behind Aphex Twin & Radiohead), as well as multiple panels, workshops, tech showcases and a musical roster of world class DJs, selectors and producers performing across eight of the city centre's leading venues into the early hours.
