Review of James (Orchestral)
James's set was breathtakingly incredible. Translating his studio tracks into a live orchestral set with gospel choir gives his music a new performative energy whilst inviting the crowd to join in with all the hits. I'd never tire of this.
The Bedford Park venue is a lovely setting although the entry management is, in my opinion, too aggressive with airport style security, bag searches and pat downs - crazy for a gig made up of mainly middle-aged, going on pensioner clientele. The (as always) overpriced bar was also aggressively policed by bar managers that gave their staff a hard time, imagine any other bar not understanding what a large wine or double G&T was. The inability to buy more than one unopened can of lager (all purchases had to be opened at time of purchase).is also annoying - who in their 50s or 60s (and beyond) is going to throw cans of beer at artists and at those prices (£6.50 each)?
Finality, it's a shame that the space in front of the stage is segregated between a premium garden area (largely unpopulated) and the rest of us as proper music fans. No wonder Tim Booth pointedly dedicated his performance to the right hand side of the crowd, jammed in like sardines. Festival organisers take note. Let the Prosecco swigging, canapé scoffers have their private platform, all well and good fir them but for my money, a big part of going to a festival styled concert is to get right on down with it with the space to retire to a camper chair further back when needed. And for goodness sake, get rid of those security guards or at least allow people to bring their own snacks rather than pay through the nose for mediocre, overpriced fun fair food. I'd rather pay an extra tenner for my ticket to cover their park rental and bring in a sarnie than be ripped off snd treated like dirt as festival organisers like to do. Live Nation especially. If artists are willing to make a stand over undesirable sponsors then perhaps they can begin by making more effort to appreciate how much regular attendees are fleeced in the process of contributing to their wages. Budget airlines are required now to show how much their extra essentials are - maybe Live Nation et al should be required to publish their entry requirements and ancillary costs to punters at the time of purchase, too. Then we'd all know just how much this night out will be - and what s**te food and drink offerings are available.
Will I go to a concert in Bedford again? Hmm. Very much depends.

Review of James (Orchestral)
The gig was fine, with great acts. But the published gate opening time of 5pm was incorrect meaning we missed the first act and most of the 2nd. So we felt a bit cheated to be honest. So this needs to be made much clearer and notifications provided if event timings change.
