Review of Luca Stricagnoli UK & Ireland Tour 2023
Luca is an excellent guitar player and the venue is great. My issue is with the sound - it was way too bright and piercing and I left at the interval with a headache. The sound was also very loud which created issues due to the dynamic nature of Luca’s performance. The quieter passages were lovely, and his modulation to a louder dynamic was well controlled, however the volume spikes when he hit the guitar hard (which was very frequently) were like an ice pick in the ear. Also, the sound of the guitar ring he wears was the loudest thing audible. Some form of audio processing to even the dynamics would have been very welcome. That measure, combined with a less bright sound would make the experience enjoyable.
On a musical note, I would love to hear more original music from Luca. The song he wrote for his grandmother was nice - I’d love to hear more original, organic work and less covers.
