Reviews of Union Street Bar in Belfast

Union Street Bar venue information

Union Street Bar & Restaurant opened its doors first as a bar in December 2003 with the restaurant following in January 2004. It was originally a Victorian shoe factory, and still retains its original wrought iron pillars and date plaques. It’s that touch of antiquity that fuses with modern loft styling to create a venue that’s as comfortably for a quiet drink during the day as it is putting on outrageous entertainment by night. In 2005 an additional venue was added, The Shoe Factory, a self contained staged nightclub which provides the ideal setting for larger entertainment events.

In Union Street, the main downstairs area focuses around it’s long zinc bar, with modern furnishings around old roaring fires.

By day, it’s a calm place for a drink or a bite to eat - the restaurant serves an excellent selection of traditional favourites; and by night plays hosts to Belfast’s best drag queens with karaoke, cabaret and everything in between. The upper floor, called The Green Room, is a mezzanine style level looking over the bar. It's a serene setting for dining and by night a fully fledged cocktail bar.

Union Street has become renowned for it's wacky entertainment seven nights a week with karaoke and gameshows through to cabaret and the infamous Sunday Bingo Show. The Shoe Factory also plays host to some of the greatest one-nighters in Belfast, including the city's oldest 'Slosh' and Robert Brown's 'Bubu'.

By day or by night, Union Street has something to offer… but don’t take our word for it, call in for a coffee, chips or a cosmo…
