About

Adequate housing was recognized as part of the right to an adequate standard of living in article 25 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  But Britain currently has a backlog of 4.3 million missing homes that were never built.  Even if it builds the required 300,000 homes a year it will take 50 years to clear the backlog of housing.  In this national context how will local authorities and the organisations that support refugees seeking housing meet this need?

Our newly published report provides timely and recent evidence of the journey refugees experience as they seek housing.  These stories are put within the wider context of Birmingham’s financial struggles amidst the backdrop of UK National Austerity Policies.

Speaker – Dr. Amanda Beattie, Director the Centre for Migration and Forced Displacement

Speaker - Dr. Patrycja Rozbicka, Senior Lecturer Politics, History and International Relations.

Food from: Hawker Dan, West Midlands Jerk Centre, Filthy Chicken & Fireaway Grill
