About

A new series of events launched by the team at Digbeth Dining Club, “Brum’s Finest”, will celebrate some of the biggest names to come out of the city, names who have helped put Birmingham on the map.
Styled as “An Evening With…”, the events will be set in the casual and fun environment of Herbert's Yard.
The third instalment of the event will feature Historian and TV Presenter Carl Chinn.

Professor Carl Chinn MBE DL Ph.D. F.Birm.Soc. is a social historian with a national
profile, writer, teacher, and public speaker. An off-course bookmaker until 1984, after which he was unemployed and part-time employed for several years, he is the son and grandson of illegal bookmakers in Sparkbrook, whilst his mother’s family were factory workers in Aston. His writings and broadcasting are deeply affected by his family’s working-class background and life in the back-to-backs of Birmingham, and he is resolute in his belief that history must be democratised because each and every person has made their mark upon history and has a story to tell.

Carl is the author of 35 books, amongst them studies of working-class housing, urban working-class life, poorer working-class women’s lives, manufacturing, Birmingham, the Black Country, illegal bookmaking, and ethnic minorities. He is also co-editor of Birmingham. The Workshop of the World (2016), the first major history of Birmingham since the 1970s.

The event will take place at the award-winning street food venue, Herbert's Yard, where food and drinks will be available on the evening.
The night will conclude with a lecture on The Real Peaky Blinders.
In order to keep these events accessible to anyone and everyone, tickets will cost just £10, with under 18’s allowed in for free when accompanied by an adult ticket-holder.
The show will start at 7.30pm and wrap up by 10pm. Doors will open at 6pm for anyone looking to enjoy the food and drink prior to the main event. The night will be informal with no dress code or table bookings required.
