Close to Upper Highgate Street is the New Hope Community Playground, which opened in October 2002 as the first part of the Highgate Open Space Strategy. A cheerful sign features a poem written by Highgate resident Ted Yardley. It reads: “New Hope Community Park... That’s its name, All be friends, when you play your game, You can laugh, sing or shout, Being friends is what its all about, So tell your friends to come for sure, Then all be friends for evermore!”
