the venue is absolutely awful I'm afraid. unless you are 3/4s of the way into the room you can't see a thing. The pub upstairs is fine. Chris has put Cud on at Hare and Hounds I think. that is a much better venue

Been a fan of Cud for many many years, since my teens. A fantastic indie band with a unique sound. The Humdrum Express wasn't really to my taste but the gig and the night was brilliant. The Flapper is one of my favourite venues, last time we saw Cud was here, an intimate venue with a bar upstairs, very reasonably priced and clean. All in all the night was excellent and would recommend to anyone.

Fantastic atmosphere and music despite the venue bringing forward start times and forcing a merger of 9:30 because of their Halloween party! CUD were fantastic entertainment as always.
One massively overworked girl behind the bar was not good though- venue need to at least give the music events equal priority to other events. We were paying for the music and the Halloween party was free- yet we had only one person behind the bar compared to about half a dozen bar staff upstairs. Annoying.

Cud were excellent as ever and the atmosphere great. Lovely little venue with good beer. The Humdrum Express was an unusually good support with insightful and funny lyrics a very good warmup act for Cud.

Review of Graham Cunnington/Paul Jamrozy (of Test Dept) & Gnod & Mutate

I arrived late, missed Mutate and the first ten minutes of Gnod. I had not seen Gnod before but enjoyed their heavy industrial drone with experimental sounds at the front of the stage. It was only recently that I became aware that Test Dept were still performing and I was intrigued to see them again. I went to their stunning performances in both Cardiff and Glasgow many years ago. Now minus the metal bashing the heavy electronic beat is still very familiar and instantly recognisable as the band I saw all those years ago. Accompanied by a video backdrop this performance was immensely enjoyable and I will certainly look to see them again when I can.

Really enjoyable event in an interesting location. Hotel Staff had never heard of it but it was actually rather good. A wee bit awkward for those of us who don't know the city so well but guess we will get to do so in due course. Wolfgang was excellent ( perhaps could have had a little more vocal) and Rusty Egan was extremely energetic, very good and had a tremendous singer named Erik Stein who delivered 2 of his songs tremendously, both in an emotional and aural context. Worked well in conjunction with the preceding conference which took place during the day and was quite sublime.

Review of Wolfgang Flur (Ex-Kraftwerk) + B-Movie

Well it's Friday 11th November 2016 and i'm off to The Flapper in Birmingham. Its day after last nights live event at The Flapper. Now having visited it, it is an ideal music venue for getting up & close to artists. The venue is easily to find despite being tooked away down a lane near a canal and there's plenty of car parking facilites situated nearby. It was my first time to The Flapper, I must admit I wasn't too sure what to expect but I was pleasantly suprised, a warm welcome by staff, a cosy venue and a really lovely atmosphere too.

I have been trying to see B-Movie for near on 35+ years but last nights energetic performance playing to a sell out crowd was just so good. I not just saying that becuase I have waited so long to see them play live but geniuenly, these four guys put on a note worthly live gig last night. The sound from the amps/PA was awesome, best that i've heard at a gig (..well done & cheers to the sound & lights chaps for that). A good mix of songs by B-Movie; single releases, classic album tracks and new material as well some rarer songs too. Although personally I would have loved more songs from the lads like 'T'rash & Mystrey', 'Man On A Threshold', 'Forever Running' or the very excellent 'So Far Away'. B-Movie took to the stage shortly after 8.15pm following an ambient set, which i believe was performed byTen:Ten.

B-Movie started with ' Feeling Gothic' from their new album ' Climate of Fear' and then preceeded to play songs almost in chronogical order with brief narratives from lead singer and principle song writer, Steve Hovington. Some of the gems from their setlist featured 'Moles', 'A Letter From AFar', 'Polar Opposites', 'Marilyn Dreams', and current new material 'Another False Dawn' & 'Ghost Land' with B-Movie finishing off their set with their best known and loved songs, 'No-where Girl' & the aptly named, 'Remembrance Day' which had the everyone dancing & singalong that left the audience wanting more. If you haven't seen or heard of B-Movie before, then why not!

The headline act last night was Wolfgang Flur. What can i say about a man who has inspired so many artists & been so influencial musically. Wolfgang Flur , ex Kraftwerk percussionist and undinieably a true pioneer of electrionc muisc being at the very fore front of this genre which i think would be correct to say, that Wolfgang and his fellow Kraftwerk band members created. This icon of Electronica did not disappoint. I feel lucky to have been there last night and been in the presence of a great master musician, Wolfgangs performance is something I shall rememeber forever.

All in all, a terriffic venue and I for one, have a return visit to The Flapper pencilled in! Thanks must be given to the organisers of the event, Thank You for a truely wonderful night.
