Forged in the live music of east Birmingham at the turn of the century, Mr Johnson
the Band are hard to describe. The love child of Jethro Tull and Franz Ferdinand is
our current favourite. We like it, but we’re not sure if it helps. Anyway, the band combine strong vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, flute, bass and
drums to create an original and quirky sound.

The band first formed in 2010 and were part of the live music scene in and around
east Birmingham with incursions into the edges of Warwickshire. After a hiatus of a
few years the band are back and working the live music scene in pubs and venues,
playing some old favourites but mainly working on new material.

The combination of acoustic guitar and flute bring a distinct sound to the songs with
the flute generally taking the role of lead guitar to provide hooks that lodge in your
ear (in a good way!). The strong harmonics are pulled together with vocal harmonies
to create a sound that is hard to define, but here’s a string of words that may help...

acoustic indie, alt.folk, singer/songwriter, rock. Or thereabouts.
