On Saturday 8 February, Live In The Library Presents... welcomes 3 local singer-songwriters for the first Songwriter's Circle.
Welcome to the first Songwriter's Circle 2025 at the Thimblemill Library. This is a seasonal event that will bring musicians together to perform a selection of their original songs alongside a discussion about the inspiration behind their compositions.
Hosted by Susy Wall, the evening promises to be a night of song, chat and exploration amongst the books in this wonderful art deco library in Smethwick.
Featuring local songwriters Matt Sayers, Ben Drummond and Susy Wall
Susy Wall
Having spent her first 18 years growing up in a small town on the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog in South Wales, Susy has always been in love with the melody and song that is intrinsic to the identity of her home country. This underpins both her writing and performing and is a fundamental part of who she is as an artist. Inspired by the everyday moments that often go unnoticed, Susy's songs are heavily influenced by songwriters such as Laura Marling and Paul Simon. Her performance style is acoustic and emphasises her vocals in a similar way to artists such as Eddi Reader and Joni Mitchell.
Susy self-released her debut album - The Spaces In Between - in September 2024. She has been played on BBC Radio 2's Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe and Sara Cox's afternoon show. Her album has recently been the Featured album on Iain Anderson's show on BBC Radio Scotland and she spent 3 weeks in the Welsh A List on BBC Radio Wales at the end of Sept.
Matt Sayers
Nestled in the embrace of indie folk, Matt Sayers, a singer-songwriter from England with a penchant for heartfelt storytelling, draws inspiration from the revered Laurel Canyon troubadours of the 70s; think Jackson Browne and Joni Mitchell. Matt invites you to join him on a journey of self-discovery, with each song being a mirror reflecting the shared emotions and experiences that bind us all. In the gentle strumming of his guitar and the warmth of his voice, Matt finds a timeless connection that speaks to the heart. Matt is currently working on recording new material which is he is hoping to release in 2025.
Ben Drummond
Birmingham-based acoustic guitarist and vocalist, Ben Drummond, is an award winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the West Midlands who has supported the likes of Eric Clapton, John Mayer, The Block heads, Ellie Golding, The Christians, Biffy Clyro and Mark Knopfler to name but a few. Bens' songs take inspiration from an eclectic mix of sources ranging from classical and Spanish rhythm guitar to Flamenco, Nu Soul, and alternative folk. 2024 saw the release of his album, A Window to the World, which showcases his incredible talent as both an accomplished songwriter and an exceptional musician.
