Review of Cafe Mambo Ibiza - Birmingham

Great party. Great music. Perfect timing for start and finish

To whom it may concern,
I am very unhappy regarding my recent visit to your Cafe Mambo event held at XOYO Birmingham. Cafe Mambo is very important to me, because it is where I proposed to my then girlfriend 15 years ago. So when I saw that Cafe Mambo was going to be visiting, I leapt at the chance to surprise my partner and treat us to a Cafe Mambo experience, as it holds very special memories for us. Imagine my utter despondent when we arrived at the venue, only to find it was NOTHING like Cafe Mambo. The reasons for my extreme disappointment are as follows:
To begin, the opening time was 2pm. When we arrived at 2pm, we were not allowed in as they were still setting up! The staff were still placing barriers and security fences outside the venue. We were finally able to enter sometime after 2:15. When we did get in, our tick*ts were not scanned, the door staff just glanced at them, and we were waived in. The bars were not yet open, and when they did finally open, they were experiencing issues with the tills, so it took a while to get served. When we did get served, as it was early we decided on a soft drink each as we had not yet eaten. Both the Pepsi & R White lemonade were bottles bought from B&M and they were WARM and FLAT. Paying £3.00 for a soft drink is expensive, although expected in a club venue. I do not, however, expect to pay for flat drinks poured from a warm bottle.This brings me onto the 'food courtyard' (this is an EXTREMELY EXAGGERATED description). I have attached a video and some pictures of this DANGEROUS area. As you can see there is great deal of debris and rubbish scattered around the 'courtyard', that was described as food being available from 'Digbeth Dining Club'. It was a burger van. A very expensive burger van in a dirty, DANGEROUS yard area. The immediate area leading to the 'courtyard' was a small set of rick*ty tables and benches that did not look like they could hold the weight of two people, let alone the 5 or 6 per bench that they could seat. There were many other unsafe areas including the toilets which had hose pipes and other items lying around, and going from area to area felt like we would trip over som**hing or think som**hing would land on us.The 'private bar' area was about the size of my living room. No seats and no better vantage point than standing anywhere else upstairs. And after looking past the tiny VIP area, the terrace was not clean, there was graffiti around the area, and as a note, music on the terrace was due to start at 2pm. There was no music up there until after 4pm.On the information we received, it was stated that there was a dress code, and this would be strictly enforced, with a list of unacceptable clothing (caps, joggers etc). Unfortunately, this was not enforced, it looked like some people had just rolled in from work, others were wearing clothing that was clearly in contradiction to said dress code.After everything we left early as we were so disgusted at the state of the venue, the outrageously described courtyard and the fact that a lot of the songs were being repeated!I want a refund as this was in NO WAY remotely Cafe Mambo in any shape or form. I have emailed all parties involved, as I cannot believe that an establishment like Cafe Mambo would want to be associated with such a disaster. I paid a total of £120.98 (this included the insurance) for a VIP experience for myself and my partner to rekindle fond memories of our time in Ibiza. Instead we have been left with some horrific memories of a horrible 'dive' is the only word I can use to describe this venue. I am seeking complete redress for the completely false advertising and deception in the sale of these tick*ts.

Great event, staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly security when carrying out entry checks. Good to have food available onsite too.
