Review of Bournemouth Reggae Weekender
Great friendly vibe, lovely mix of interesting and friendly people, and some excellent music. (and the weather are glorious) Loved the entire weekend and had a great time.
The few bands that played over the weekend provided a really good mix of different styles of reggae and were all really enjoyable.
I'd have preferred a more balanced mix of live bands to the preponderance of DJ sets, not least because the DJs/hosts liked the sound of their own voices more than the music they were playing. The DJ's doing the afternoon and evening sets chattered incessantly over the tracks interrupting, literally every 10-15 seconds and spoiling being able to enjoy and dance to the beats. In trying to get the crowd going they were doing the opposite and hindering letting the crowd enjoy the music and dance. Their inability to know what was and was not needed was astounding and hugely annoying. If they are going too talk ask them to stick to doing so between the songs not continually during them... oh and tell them to stop cutting every song off after only 60 seconds to start a new one. We barely got into each song and it was cut short for the next one.
Also, if you have a legend's spot, such as with a 72 year old frail performer like Dawn Penn, put them on in the afternoon where their more gentle style will work better and the enrolment will be more fitting for legend status. (Dione Warwick did a late afternoon spot at the Love Supreme Festival and it was great despite her being 83 and not able to sing or perform like she used to) In the evening on a Saturday night the crowd wanted to let loose and were held back by the low energy from the stage. This was made worse by the host giving the performer an overly loud and shouty build up which the performer couldn't deliver on. A low key, late afternoon spot would have been perfect.
All in all, we really enjoyed the weekend but did so despite the DJs and hosts not because of them.
Really looking forward to going back again next year and despite my criticism of the DJs I still highly recommend this event.

Some stalls were way too expensive for drinks and food there should be some stalls that sell food and drink at lower prices for people who may not afford food and drink but can afford the tickets. Also there should be a shaded area not just for vip but for everyone

Not as good as last, line up was not great ,at all alot of same misic olayed across all 3 days. food expensive. Repeating of songs I could stayed at home and heard in radio. I will give it miss next year I'm afraid. We had great weather maybe that kept locals away . I felt bit bored tbh ..Should just allow people in with picnic food tbh. Cost living crisis. Last year was more family oriented but people wld not of had £15 thow for each person to eat!!. Thanks anyway was great be with famiand friends and relax from London life.
