Review of Mary Spender
Mary exudes a genuine passion for her craft. The evening had a positive, celebratory feel: Many of the audience had either not seen her live for a long time (Lock-downs) or had 'discovered' her online during lock-downs (me), and were finally able to see her perform live. Some lucky folk had been 'dragged along' by their mates, family or partners and were hearing her music for the very first time (Perhaps we can call them 'Virgin Marys' :-D). These people will no doubt become part of the growing fan-base now.
A combination of the venue's size and this artist's ability to engage with her audience made the gig feel intimate, but in a comfortable way. Guitar and vocals were virtually flawless, with a set list divided into 'acoustic' and 'electric'. This approach could have felt disjointed but I don't think it did. Older, more familiar songs were interspersed with a handful of covers and plenty of brand new gems, highlighting just how much original material is starting to accumulate in this singer/songwriter's back catalogue: This is where it suddenly came to my mind: She does this AND all the Youtube content, courses, travel etc. A very busy person indeed, but never too busy to thank her support network and fans, which of course she did on multiple occasions. It was a real feel-good night and clear that Mary had a great time too. Definitely do not miss the opportunity to see this artist live!
Highlights: "Long Island City" and "Darling, You Need Therapy" seamlessly segued into "Primrose". A beautiful Vigier. The tuning stability of that Martin acoustic! & meeting Mary for a chat and signing of CDs after the show.

A poor venue, very small, no chairs or tables to sit or put your drink down. Had silly plastics cups that you had to pay a pound deposit on. Drinks upstairs ridiculously priced. Mary was great, what I saw of her, left early as a very poor venue.

Review of Mary Spender
I've followed Mary on YouTube for about 3 years, and it was amazing to see her play live. She is so talented and plays well to the crowd.
This was my first time at Komedia, and I think the venue was great for Mary and her audience.

Great little venue.. Relaxed, professional performance. Beautiful voice and guitar ….but we knew that already …and if you didn’t then watch her on YouTube. Amazing , thoughtful young lady. T

A good evening even though the weather was extremely poor.
We had seen Mary do a short set in support of another gig in London, liked what we saw so thought we would give her a try on 'home soil'.
We were not disappointed, very talented. Now we want to see her in front of a band.
Great atmosphere and a very intimate feel to the venue.
And the staff were great
