Review of The Moons Acoustic Set with Andy Crofts & Chris Watson ✰
Really enjoyed the acoustic set by Andy & Chris, especially the covers. Great voices and songs. Hope to catch the band again somewhere soon.
PS. The vote I've given for 'Rip off' prices is for the venue bar - £4.30 for a small can of IPA. Having a laugh.

Review of Department S Club Night ✰
I was beyond disheartened with our night out at The Lanes. To start with, one staff member who was both glass collecting and serving behind the bar, didn't seem to know anything about customer service. We arrived about 9:30 so the place was still quiet...we had asked him as he passed if we could order drinks from him (as we were unsure of the service) and he was clearly annoyed by this and grunted to go to the bar.
Our pre-booked karaoke slot was 11pm however the stag party that were in the room were still singing away at 11:10pm. The manager informed us that there had been technical difficulties with the equipment and that he'd kick them out at 11:10pm.
He didn't.
So at 11:15pm we decided to just tell the stag party ourselves and they were incredibly civilised about it. No trouble at all. Upon entering the room, there were a couple of smashed glasses, empty glasses strewn all over the room - on the floor, by the couch etc. The manager asked if we were happy to take the room as it was and I said, as long as we won't be charged for the mess!
He said no.
20 minutes in to our 1.5 hour slot, the cupboard door that encloses the karaoke equipment fell off the hinges and smashed glasses that were underneath it. We asked security to contact the manager and upon entering, he instantly presumed that we had pulled it off the wall somehow. Considering the generous length of microphone cable and the civilised, Britney Spears singing crowd that we were, it would be near on impossible. Luckily, I wasn't drinking that evening so was able to remember the events in full. It took at least 10 minutes to get the machine up and running again and after this, it crashed and froze a further 2 times. Each time, we had to wait 10 minutes for them to repair it with the manager seeming more and more annoyed at us every time he had to come back.
Considering he had already told me that there had been technical problems that night I feel this is really unfair.
I then purchased 2 bottles of champagne for our room with 10 glasses. Said bar man was again, extremely rude and unhelpful. I asked for a try as I was clearly going to struggle and he said he didn't have one and walked away. No offer of anyone helping me, no offer of keeping some glasses back for me so I could make two trips. He just promptly moved on to serving the next customers and watched me struggle. Charming way to treat a customer that has just spent £70.
Unfortunately, the hen in our party was feeling a bit worse for wear and was a little sick on the floor. It was only a tiny a bit as a few of us rushed to get her out ASAP and they took her home. It was the first time she had drank in months as she has been working for a charity in Calais. We told the bar staff as soon as possible so we could clean it up but instead, the rest of us were told to leave. Apparently as one person in our party had been sick we all had to go. We hadn't finished our karaoke slot and had hardly any singing time anyway due to it crashing and NO apology for this. We weren't allowed to finish our drinks. We had been no trouble to anyone, bar the sick which we offered to clean and were honest about.
I was then told I wasn't allowed my £20 'microphone' deposit back as our friend had been sick and we had smashed one glass AND broken the karaoke machine?!!!!! I had to argue until I lost my voice and the manager reluctantly gave it back to me. We were then escorted off the premises with even one of the bouncers apologising as she knew it was unfair.
Safe to say, we will never step foot in The Lanes again. I've just relocated to Bristol from London and had heard great things about the place but it was one of the worse nights I have ever had.

Review of Department S Club Night NYE - Ready Steady Go!
The live music was not very good, and the 'DJ' consisted of playing mostly oldies. Didn't seem like there was a DJ at all actually -- just a playlist. Too much money for not much action.
