In 2014, Dane was nominated for Best Newcomer Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he was the first Black British comic to ever be nominated. This lead to Dane creating, writing and starring in ‘SunnyD’ on BBC Three, the first sitcom written by a black British writer with a nall British cast to appear on the BBC in over 20 years. The show was purchased by Lionsgate, with the intention of remaking an American version of the show under the auspices of ‘Scary Movie’ creator Keenan Ivory Wayans.
Dane went on to amass a number of TV and Radio credits, including appearing on and hosting Live At The Apollo in 2015 and 2017 respectively, whilst also appearing on a wide variety of recognised comedy TV shows, including 8 out 10 Cats, Countdown, Mock the Week and Comic Relief to name but a few. Dane’s Live work has gone from strength to strength since his debut show ‘Citizen Dane’; with successive live shows ‘Reasonable Doubts’ and ‘Gold Oil and Drugs’ not only being sell out international tour shows as far afield as Australia and the UAE, but also being adapted for shows such as ‘Live At The BBC’ on Netflix and ‘Live At Soho Theatre’ on Amazon Prime.
Dane is also thriving in with his podcast ‘Dane Baptiste Questions Everything’ and appearances on a host of podcasts spanning many genres.
He has risen to prominence in a short space of time and has enjoyed guests ranging from BBC’s Reggie Yates, Pop Superstar Jamelia, Conservative peer Baroness Warsi to former Labour leader Ed Miliband. This has lead to top listings for Comedy and Conversation Podcasts on Spotify as well as award nominations from the National Comedy Awards and PodBible.
He provided writing services on ‘Attack of The Film Cliches’ alongside Charlie Brooker, and writing for CBBC and for BGT winners alongside regularly appearing on Daytime TV. After the release of his first online special, ‘The Chocolate Chip’ alongside 800 Pound gorilla, Dane will be back on international to ur in 2024.
