On Sunday 5th April 2011, Norgren Social Club closed its doors for the final time. Monday 6th April saw the launch of a new company Sheldon Bosley Hub Limited. Before we talk about the new company, a brief look back at how the club came into existence. The club began its life as Shipston Engineering Social Club, it was built for the employers of Shipston Engineering by Sheldon Bosley in 1969 and was a private members club. It later became Norgren Social Club but allowed social members to join as well. At this time the club was subsidized by the IMI Norgren. When the factory closed in 2007 the company withdrew their subsidy and the club became totally independent in all aspects, with the club leasing the facility from IMI PLC. The management committee decided the best way forward was to become a Social Enterprise with the following objects:- To develop the site into a community facility offering more facilities to the wider community of Shipston on Stour and the surrounding area. To provide and develop social, sporting, educational, leisure and community activities for the entertainment, interest and benefit of club members and the community. To provide services by associating with voluntary organisations, local authorities, health organisations, local communities and local organisations, government departments in a common effort to provide services enabling individuals to move forward with their lives. To manage and improve the facilities and services of the Sheldon Bosley Hub. A Social Enterprise must be a Limited Company but we could not use the name Norgren as it already exists as a Company. Therefore, we thought it appropriate to name the company after its founder Sheldon Bosley, the Hub was added to enhance the diversity of the organisation. As a Social Enterprise we are a Not For Profit organisation and all income solely used towards the promotion of our objects and improving the premises. A prime example of this was replacing heating system with a modern, efficient system. Reducing our energy bills and carbon footprint. Membership is now open to all, with different types of membership to enable families and individuals to benefit from the best possible choice. Membership entitles the holder to free entry into the main club bar, which has a full size snooker table , pool table (50p game) various gaming machines, community computers, food available from Lucky House Chinese restaurant based within the building open 6 days per week. Children and families are all welcome into the club and there is a fantastic field for warmer weather to run around, play football or just enjoy the outdoors, this is very safe with no sign of a main road nearby and all fenced off.
