P.A.I.N

Formed in 1995 from the ashes of AOS3 and Radical Dance Faction, Propaganda And Information Network to give them their full name feature Phil Pain on guitar/vox (ex-U.K Subs), Captain Ozbert bass/vox, Dan The Man drums/vox, Steuie Boh percussion/saxophone & vox and Steo (also in Paranoid Visions) samples/vox. The band’s innovative sound blends the righteous anger of punk rock with dub rhythms, ska and reggae into a melting pot of sounds that hit your head and your dancing feet in equal measures. The band are on the ascendancy again after releasing their first new album since 2000’s “O.U.C.H”, (“Our Universe Commences Here”) in “Crisis Time” released in 2024. Also known for their collaboration with Howard Marks (“Let Me Grow More Weed”), the band are an exciting and worthy headliner having played numerous Festivals including Glastonbury and toured internationally.

XSLF

Special guests to P.A.I.N are Northern Ireland’s XSLF, who are the brainchild of Henry Cluney the original guitarist/vocalist with the legends that are Stiff Little Fingers and the man who played on all their classics from 1977 thru to 1993. The Fingers second drummer Jim Reilly also featured in the band before ill-health lead to his departure, being replaced by Glenn Kingsmore (also in The Defects) with Ave Tsarion on bass. Live, the band perform all the old Fingers classics with the punk rock fury that they originally possessed, which makes for a pogotastic spectacle, alongside originals from their two studio albums released to date.

FATAL DOSE

Burton-on-Trent punks whose motto is “’81 ‘til We’re Gone” as they pump out their melodic UK82 punk rock anthems. In 2022 they released their debut album “New Variant Part 1” and have just finished recording its follow-up which is due out later this year. In recent times the band have been very busy on the live circuit playing Festivals and gigs the length and breadth of the realm including some high-profile support slots with the likes of Subhumans, Sham 69, The Anti-Nowhere League and 999 amongst others. The quartet include original members Rog on bass/vocals, Lavy guitar/vocals, Dave drums and newcomer Sam on guitar/vocals.

PLASTIC BARDO

London alt-rock supergroup who have just recorded their debut album “Intermediate State” (due out in April) and have dropped new single “Disappear” from it. The trio who feature ex-members of Chelsea, Plague UK and Lucifer Star Machine are Simon on bass/vox, Lee drums and Ben guitar. This is a coup for the festival as this will be only the bands’ second gig and their first outside London at the start of what could be a very important UK band in the coming years. So, you can say you saw them here first and experienced their crafted tunes before anybody else.

TRI-SUBVERSION

A little bit closer to home are Leicester post-punk trio Tri-Subversion who have been peddling their unique take on ‘80’s post-punk since 2019, combining angular, choppy guitarwork with clever, insidious lyrics that recall Killing Joke at their abrasive best. The band feature the two Clive’s, Standish on drums/vocals, Hale guitar/vocals and Julian Palmer bass/vocals. The band are just putting the final touches to their third album, “Self-Defeating Ideology” and are regulars on the UK touring circuit having supported such names as varied as UK Subs, Evil Blizzard and Splodgenessabounds. They’re an intense experience live but possess an inherent groove to their tunes that pushes their sound up a number of levels in the live environment.

ROAD RAGE (3 STONE MONKEY)

Now here’s another big coup, Donington’s Road Rage with their ‘comeback gig’ and first in 25 years! In recent times original members, vocalist Pete and bassist Roy have been playing under the 3 Stone Monkey moniker but it’s the tunes that sent Road Rage around the World in the ‘90’s that people want to hear. And so, here we have the reformation as Pete and Roy are joined by 3 Stone Monkey’s Ghandi on drums, J.B guitar and Psycho on additional vocals/

dancing like a twat! Expect the old classics, great stage banter and some of the newer tracks with a punk rock twist. A welcome return indeed.

DECAY 87

For those of you who like their punk rock with a harder metal edge, then Birmingham’s Decay 87 are gonna be right up your street combining Black Sabbath riffs alongside American hardcore sensibilities, the band have a couple of EP’s out already and are one of the most hard-working bands around at the moment, so expect an incendiary set with guitarist Jackson, bassist Jay Decay, drummer Alex Cross and vocalist Screaming Ian Hideous ready to blast your eardrums.

THE GLASS CANNONS

We’re very pleased to have recruited this lot as they are our favourite up and coming Midlands band. Hailing from Coventry these young Alt Rockers, Anthony guitar/vox, Garryth vocals, Cameron guitar/vox, Katie drummer and Matty bass/vox have come on in leaps and bounds over the last year, moving from opening act to headliner at Club Warhead. Their recent digitally released single “My Echoes” has even been played at Coventry’s Ricoh Stadium. We think the band have a great future, so check ‘em out and see what you think!

AMBITION DEMOLITION

Melodic ’77-inspired punk rock all the way from Cheltenham. Now this quartet are ‘in it for life’ and since 2016 have released 4 albums of critically acclaimed punk rock blasts including a live album and are currently working on album #5! The band including their fluorescent stage gear are Alan Cattermoul on guitar and vocals, Clive Buff Cooper bass/vocals and Al Stone drums and are well worth a slot on this line-up.

CHIPSUM GRAVY

Coventry trio, Stu on bass/vocals, Erps guitar/vox and Ash drums whose debut album “The Good, The Bad And The Gravy” was one of the highlights of 2024. The band are now demoing tracks for the follow-up but have taken time out of their busy schedule to bang out a ’77-inspired melodic set at the Uprising!

MONKISH

Vocalist Brad Frugal has been leading his merry men since 2006 with their brand of punk pathetique humour and witty observations about shit porn movies and the price of a Freddo, together with a plea to not urinate in his microwave! What’s not to like? The lazy sod has only released 2 albums so far, both of which are clear examples of quality over quantity and will have you splitting your sides. The other jesters are Sy on guitar, Denis guitar, Leo bass and Max on drums.

THE DREGS

The Dregs are a Birmingham punk rock institution, forming in 1980 and releasing their new and only album (lazy buggers) late last year. “Inner City Kids” is a double though, making up for lost time with one disc of new tracks and the other a greatest hits of sorts with a timeline from a 1980 demo through to a live track recorded at Rebellion Festival in 2018. Steve Brain on drums and Mac guitar/vocals are long term dregs, joined by Tig, guitar/vocals and Phil on bass/vocals and play ye old school punk with a Millennium twist.

W.O.R.M

After jokingly calling an album “We Only Rehearse Monthly”, you’d expect the band to be a little loose. But nothing could be further from the truth as this Chesterfield quartet have been playing tight, melodic punk rock since 1992. Originally preferring a pop/punk vibe, their sound has developed to reflect a harder edge over their seven albums to date with their latest “Down With The Crown” seeing the light of day in January this year, further establishing their credentials as being a great live and studio band. The band consist of Danny on bass/vocals, Kyle guitar/vocals, Mart guitar/vocals and Shane drums/vocals.

LONG GOOD FRIDAYS

Now these guys are doing something a little different, advancing brittle, angular guitar lines on top of darker brooding songs to embrace a fresh twist on ‘80’s post-punk. Signed to T&M

Records they put out their debut album “Closure” last year to critical acclaim and have been going from strength-to-strength ever since. Hailing just down the road from Coventry, the band are Jati (vocals/guitar), Nathan (vocals/bass) and James (drums).

YEAR ZERO

Another Birmingham band are Year Zero playing a melodic ’77 bunch of tunes infused with a rock’n’roll backbone that stands the band out from their contemporaries. There’s Tim on drums, Kel vocals, Chris bass and Rob guitar who all conspire to put on a great punk’n’roll show. Their debut album “Brace For Impact” was out in 2021 and since then they’ve put out the superb “The Louder You Scream EP” and are currently compiling songs for a new release.

COVID 21

Anarcho punk is alive and well with bands such as Telford’s Covid 21 whose lyrics take issue with animal cruelty, the state of the nation, the NHS debacle, cops that kill, keyboard warriors and the general state of apathy inherent in the isle. They’ve just released their debut album “Everything’s Fucked” in January and so 2025 could be a very exciting and busy year for the band who consist of Kerry Ann Lewis on vocals, Bic Bickerton guitar, Tran drums, Martian bass and Wendy on backing vocals/sound effects.

COMPLETE DYSFUNCTION

Birmingham punks that play an ‘80’s style selection of tunes ripped through with a metal heart. They’ve supported numerous ‘name’ bands including 999, Conflict, GBH, Discharge and The Lurkers so have a fair pedigree in the live arena to boot. They have a number of self-released products available on the recording front, as such they’re always worth getting to the front for. The band are Mark on drums, Anton guitar, Richie bass and Dave Baker on vocals.
