Review of Halloween Oktoberfest Nantwich 2024
We arrived just after doors opened at 3 pm and it took a while before things started to kick off. Held in "tipis" effected behind the local community centre it was a bit cool outside but people were dressed warm and there were a few heaters on the site. Food was limited, disappointing, and overpriced with only two German options on the menu: Strudel (with custard?) and quite a small "bratwurst" sausage though they did have sauerkraut (always a good sign in my book). Drinks were reasonably priced (£5 for a pint of beer) though for non-drinkers £3 for a tin of C**e is excessive particularly if they are to be encouraged to be the designated driver.
A DJ played in a big tent with lines of tables up until 7:30 when "The Amazing Bavarian Stompers" took the stage and that is when things got really interesting - Fun, silly, irreverent but great for a, shall we say, slightly tipsy crowd. The group did deliver what I feel was a genuine flavour of Oktoberfest.
