The BlueNote, named after the long-running and successful jazz record label of the same name, is a nightclub and live music venue in Derby. The BlueNote quickly developed a national reputation as a top-tier nightclub, allowing visitors to witness some of the music industry’s top performers.
Opened in 1978 as an inconspicuous members-only club, it wasn’t long before The BlueNote developed a national reputation as a go-to music venue.
The BlueNote has hosted some huge names including New Order, Culture Club, Dire Straits, Soft Cell, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, Boy George, Spandau Ballet and The Pogues.
The BlueNote also hosted the BBC, who filmed The Old Grey Whistle Test here, a programme popular in the 70s and 80s for showcasing some of the most exciting non-chart music.
The BlueNote is one of the longest running live music venues in the UK and a great success story for the British music industry.
