About

“The roots of folk and dub are deeply intertwined. An Dannsa succeeds in capturing the best of each tradition in a thoroughly original and exciting manner.” Mungo’s Hi Fi (Scotch Bonnet Records)

Music is one big conversation. And few bands live at the heart of it like An Dannsa Dub.

Born from a love of traditional Scottish folk, dub reggae and dance music, together they summon the joyous, communal energy of a cèilidh combined with the bass-heavy weight of sound system session.

Their name comes from the Gaelic for “The Dub Dance”. Their sound celebrates the ancient Gaelic and West African rhythms that influenced reggae, which in turn, via sound system culture and dub’s pioneering remixes, produced modern dance music. Their live shows and recordings are a seamless, pulsating fusion of all this and more.

An Dannsa Dub have carried this unique, unstoppable sound to the UK festival circuit. They’ve thrilled a 10,000 strong crowd at Boomtown Fair and have headlined a sold out show at Celtic Connections, the UK’s premier Celtic music festival.

2021’s self-titled EP “An Dannsa Dub” brought the group worldwide acclaim. The release has been played on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Nan Gàidheal and BBC Scotland. It’s been supported by Don Letts, who included it in his “Best Of 22”, as well as Tom Robinson, Mungo’s Hi Fi, and OBF.

The debut album Air An Turas released in March 2023 features stacks of exciting collaborations brought them further critical acclaim and in 2024 the band have played shows right across Europe to ecstatic audiences. They are now gearing up to record their second full studio album, so this is your last chance to catch the band for quite some time, with the added bonus of this one taking place in the historic medieval surrounds of The Caves, one of the most unique venues in the UK.

“An Dannsa Dub has the things I like, charm and character and does not sound like a pale imitation of anything else” Adrian Sherwood (On U Sound Records).
