Man Power [three hour set] - Hobbes Music - Club_Nacht

We are absolutely chuffed to announce we have one of the north-east's finest DJing exports gracing our stage on Saturday 10th August, for the Fringe!

Geoff Kirkwood, known as Man Power, has built a solid reputation for hosting many a sold-out party at Newcastle's renowned King Street Social Club. He's recently welcomed up the likes Optimo, Prosumer, Special Request, Artwork, A Love From Outer Space, Rex The Dog, Josh Caffe and Ewan McVicar who have all dropped in to get in amongst his knowledgeable, dedicated, and up-for-it crowd. 

Now the driving force behind Newcastle's newest party space Are You Affiliated, Man Power's love for the dance floor and scene continues to run deep as he remains a champion of the underground scene and purveyor of high-quality, good times!

MAN POWER:

Geoff Kirkwood’s Man Power project was born in 2013. Initially catching the public imagination as an anonymous alias via a succession of remixes and releases, over the last decade the full range of Kirkwood’s sonic breadth and ambition has gradually unfolded at the same time as he’s revealed more about the man behind the music.

In the last ten years the Man Power project has seen Kirkwood appear on more beloved underground labels and at more beloved parties than it would make sense to list, as well as seeing him launch his label (Me Me Me) his experimental alias (Bed Wetter), his Techno alias (MPX) and taking part in projects ranging from writing and performing a full-blown orchestral symphony, curating his own festival line-ups, presenting label parties around the world, creating projects to assist up and coming DJs from under represented backgrounds, and more lately aiding in community development in his native North East England. 

As a DJ and music producer Kirkwood is only interested in authentic self expression and if asked will simply tell you he’s just someone who likes sharing things and making things happen. Whether that’s sharing his perspective using a musical vocabulary developed over a lifetime spent dedicated to music and making you dance and have a great time by throwing a party, or by sharing his personal insights with people who find it helpful and trying to make things better by approaching things in a fairer and more equitable way.

In this time of immediate gratification, fads and short-lived micro-scenes it feels somewhat encouraging that the Man Power project not only continues to endure, but sees Kirkwood entering 2024 approaching music with the same enthusiasm he's had since day one and enjoying his busiest release schedule ever on a range of some of the biggest and freshest labels delivering music from that comes from the heart and is aimed at the soul.
