Review of TRNDS Live in Glasgow
Venue: Nice and Sleazy has never been a place I'd frequent, but for this gig in particular it was a brilliant choice! Lovely staff, reasonably priced drinks, fun decor and an ample size - only complaint was the air con made the room freezing, but that's just personal choice! Overall a brilliant venue.
Atmosphere - was okay. It wasn't a majorly busy gig, and people were somewhat friendly, but looking around a room and seeing miserable faces vaping and on their phones really put a dampener on a somewhat positive night.
Music - the first act was alright, however when my party and I arrived at the venue, we thought soundcheck was still going on due to the actual set the musician had. No crowd interaction, no introduction, nothing. Just sang and left the stage - we were confused as to how quick his set was, and with a lack of presence from him, we didn't realise he had finished when he just walked off. We thought something was wrong.
The second act was very musical, interactive, chirpy and brilliant! Maybe not the best fit with the indie style music the rest of the night offered, but his musicality and lyrics made for a pleasant evening.
The headliners? Oh my. We left after 2 songs. The lead singer could not be heard at all over the thundering of drums and guitars, and the bass player couldn't hold a tune. Working within the music industry myself, I was excited to listen to a new band and what they had to offer, but I couldn't sit through it. The potential is there, but the vocals are not.
