Spanning five decades Robin Fox’s life in sound has traversed contexts ranging from the punk squats of the noise and improv scenes to recent forays into orchestral composition for large scale contemporary dance works.
As an extension of musical enquiry, he has worked with mechanical synaesthesia, blending sound and light signal equivalence since the early 2000’s. These audio-visual experiments began as films made with oscilloscopes and have expanded into large scale outdoor activations including a recent take-over of the iconic Sydney Opera House for its 50th anniversary in 2023.
Drawing threads from childhood memories of his mother’s (Cindy John) computer music experiments in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s and landing in the present day this talk surveys life and the work (to date) of one of Australia’s most eclectic and engaging artists.
