1929 New York stockbroker crashes with the market and becomes a hopeless drunk. Through an astonishing series of events he meets a surgeon Dr. Bob Smith who has been an alcoholic for 30 years. They help each other stay sober and then pass on what they have learned to other drunks. Today it is estimated that Alcoholics Anonymous has over 2 million members worldwide.
