Haze and Trilogy are stars of the New Wave Of British Progressive Rock, a movement which had its genesis at London’s Marquee Club in the early 1980’s. Now, four decades later, they are appearing together at O’Rileys Live Music Venue in Hull on Friday the 2nd of May 2025.
Despite building their reputation as a progressive rock band, Haze have always drawn on a wide variety of influences, ranging from pop, rock, folk, metal, meandering psychedelic jams to tightly structured prog epics. Formed in Sheffield in the late 1970s by brothers Chris & Paul McMahon, they established their reputation as one of the hardest working underground bands of the ‘80s. Despite disbanding in 1988, the band reformed ten years later and have continued to perform regularly ever since, including weekly live-streamed concerts during Lockdown.
Their latest studio album, The Water’s Edge, was reviewed in Prog magazine: "The result is the best sounding Haze album yet, with the band free to concentrate on playing the music, and the inevitable constraints on studio time also helping to bring out the free-flowing, seat-of-the-pants improvisation which has made Haze one of the best live acts around."
It’s also their fastest-selling album to date, proving that Haze’s legendary reputation is richly deserved.
Trilogy’s sound combines a generous helping of heavy rock influences with the quirky time signatures and virtuoso musicianship that remain the cornerstones of true Prog. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Paul Dennis moves effortlessly between guitar, keyboards and bass pedals to create a dense and multi-layered backing for their songs, supported by intricately-woven bass and drums. Only three men on stage but Trilogy punch way above their weight!
In July 2024 Trilogy released Hidden Mysteries - a collection of their studio demo recordings from 1983 & 1984. The enthusiastic review in Prog magazine declared it “A very welcome return”
Trilogy are now working on a brand new album for release in 2025.
