Album Playback: Heaven 17 Penthouse and Pavements, with Introduction to LP by DJ and writer Ben Osborne (Noise of Art). Plus Art Make and Do sessions by artist Alice Stallard. Tickets include materials.
This month's relaxed vinyl playback session returns to 1981 and the era defining sounds of Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh and Glen Gregory.
Penthouse and Pavements was the first LP released by Martyn and Ian as Heaven 17. They took the name from Anthony Burgess' dystopian novel 'A Clockwork Orange' and had intended the LP to to be one off as part of BEF (British Electric Foundation), the umbrella project they set-up after The Human League. The success of the LP and it's follow up, The Luxury Gap, combined with their legacy as The Human League, cemented their place as the fathers of 1980s UK synth music.
