Review of Alien The Musical: A Pantomime
An clever production produced and directed by playhouse members. 'No frills' but the better for its simplicity. The inclusive nature of the play and the playhouse makes its players a real credit to the community.

Review of Becky Fury: Identity
Becky is likeable, exuberant and approached the well worn subject of British identity from a new angle.
Deft wordplay and observations about putting the ish into British, and talking about her queer identity in a relatable and self deprecating way.
This show is packed with sharp anecdotes and makes you think as well as laugh. The rebranding of Admiral Nelson as a queer folk hero, which, whilst lacking academic rigour certainly puts national pride up for reappraisal and the 'confession' about her colonial Indian family was as edgy and endearing.
Definitely one to watch in Edinburgh.

Review of Pauline Vallance: Song Swap-o-Rama
The premise is simple - one song to the tune of another - inspired by the game of the same name in Radio 4's "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", and apparently begun as a tribute following the death of regular panellist Tim Brooke-Taylor. The words and tunes are mostly very familiar (Don't ask me to name any operatic arias!), but hilariously mismatched.
I'll try to avoid spoilers, but examples include a deeply spiritual biblical story set to an up-tempo stage dance tune, sexually suggestive words to a children's TV theme tune (only suggestive though - nothing offensive), and a 1970s comedy about teenage romance and betrayal set to the most traditional of English folk tunes (I'll allow one spoiler - one of the audience apparently went on a date with the "moron" mentioned in the chorus.)
The Radio 4 original is often funny because the panellists' improvisations go wrong. Pauline's humour is different, more crafted, but the audience often laughed out loud.

Review of The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Intimate & Great community atmosphere. Since experiencing the shop front Theatre I am uninclined to go back to the usual theatres. A great production, and a great tale, surrounded by great people.
