Mutant Jazz is a platform to promote new jazz talent by not-for-profit, musician-led Parrjazz at Metrocola’s Metro Loft, on Leece Street, Liverpool.
The idea is to bring new artists who are part of the Northwest jazz spectrum and present them as key players in our rapidly mutating jazz scene, hosted and herded by the lovely MC James Lyons. We have introduced new acts from Manchester and Leeds as well as emerging talent for Liverpool.
The first Mutant Jazz event in September 2023 sold out and is still being talked about. The artists included Bonk! with their weaponised and entertaining brand of heavy funk rock, Bop Kaballa building their chilled new jazz into a hypnotic drum and bass crescendo, Sweet Beans delivering their throbbing riot jazz and Ranga and the Easy Tigers, a beautiful collaboration of all types of instrumentation, held together by an electronic framework of modular synths covering a large dinner table.
The closing hop-hop jam led by MC Motormouf and L100 Cypher took the event into the small hours.
Subsequent sell-out Mutant Jazz events have included: Deafhaüs, Ask My Bull, Olvine and Lydia Reece.
Mutant Jazz #4 is scheduled for Friday 27th September, again, upstairs at Metrocola’s Metro Loft, Leece Street Liverpool L1 2TR.
Mutant Jazz #4 artists include: super-groovy jazz-heads Mediator Quartet, and the impossibly talented beat-boxer, poet, MC, flautist, harmonica player James Lyons and DJ Isaac Jones spinning Groovy stuff
MC James Lyons will be in the house and a jam might conclude the evening if you are in the mood.
