About

Get ready for an extraordinary evening of music as Simon Gledhill, one of the world’s most celebrated theatre organists, performs on the historic Tywyn Wurlitzer. This event promises to be a captivating journey through musical history, showcasing the unparalleled talent of a musician whose passion and skill have enthralled audiences globally.

Born in Halifax, Simon Gledhill's musical journey began early. At just six years old, he started playing the piano accordion, winning numerous competitions over the next 11 years. His parents fueled his growing interest in music by purchasing a small electronic organ when he was 10. Initially self-taught, Simon later received formal instruction from Michael Woodhead, learning both classical organ and piano.

Simon’s love affair with the theatre organ began when he heard the legendary Ernest Broadbent perform at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool. This pivotal moment led Simon to practice regularly on the Compton organ at the 3Js Theatre Organ Centre in Gomersal. His dedication paid off in 1982 when he won the Northern Young Theatre Organist of the Year competition. His talent caught the attention of Nigel Ogden, presenter of BBC Radio 2’s The Organist Entertains, who invited Simon to record for the programme on the BBC theatre organ.

Simon's career soared as he became the first recipient of the Cinema Organ Society’s Ian Sutherland Award, recognizing his outstanding talent and potential. His acclaim grew internationally when the American Theatre Organ Society named him ATOS Organist of the Year in 1997 and inducted him into the ATOS Hall of Fame in 2016.

Throughout his illustrious career, Simon has performed at major theatre organ venues across Britain and toured extensively in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. His recordings on some of the world’s most famous theatre organs have captivated audiences and critics alike.

Despite his busy schedule, Simon combines his performing and recording activities with work for the Cinema Organ Society and a full-time career in finance based in London.
