Festival fever has hit W12 as we start the countdown to this summer’s much anticipated local street party, celebrating the vibrant community in Wormholt and White City. Building on the success of the last 3 years, and made possible by generous sponsorship from Mitie, W12 Festival 2015 will boast two professional stages along with a brand new DJ performance area making this year’s festival our biggest and best yet. With a focus on celebrating local talent and providing a platform for up and coming artists we have a large number of local residents on the bill to perform alongside our headliners Leslie Lewis Walker, Bate Nate Hussein, Pryme Kingz and Akelle Charles Supported by Television Centre, local residents have also been appointed as stage Dj’s and MC’s for the day.
Back by popular demand, our ferris wheel and giant inflatables will take centre stage on Commonwealth Avenue and the green spaces alongside the festival site. And being so much more than a music festival, sports and games will be led by Queens Park Rangers and London Sports Trust, dance workshops will add to the party atmosphere in the Community Champions field and interactive art will decorate the railings of our creative corner.
Thanks to Snappysnaps of Shepherds Bush, local children will be given the opportunity to document the event this year from their view point via the use of free disposable cameras with the photographs destined to be displayed at an exhibition in the heart of the community in the Autumn.
Spoilt for choice amongst the many talented local food providers, we have a great selection of international cuisine for sale on the day and a community picnic spot has been created to encourage locals to meet and eat together. Hammersmith Community Gardens will be hosting their much loved tea garden next to our W12 Unplugged stage, providing a chilled out haven amongst the high energy party atmosphere of the rest of the site.
Local businesses have once again given generously to our raffle which now boasts some truly fantastic prizes to be won by the crowd. There will also be lots of exciting items for sale from our marketplace stalls, with a large array of handmade products. Over 40 local service providers will have information stalls and the Big Local talent zone will provide a platform to promote and celebrate residents who have been funded through the Big Local Community Chest to run workshops and projects in Wormholt and White City.
The support from local residents during the lead up to the festival has been incredible. From running auditions, leaflet dropping and sewing bunting and flags to gathering together to discuss and decide on the finer points of festival planning, this year’s event is without a doubt a team effort driven forward by the enthusiasm of the local community.
