Review of Slimelight May
Overall:
Very welcome return of Jo The Waiter, who played the only sets worth dancing to all night;
Too much pushing and shoving (this has never been an issue previously: at one point I was concerned that a physical altercation was about to ensue as someone had barged into me with such obvious intent);
Too little air conditioning;
The music was so terrible that the venue was enjoyably busy until around 2am at which point it suddenly started to empty. We stood around being bored or sat around chatting for around 4 hours when we just wanted something to dance to!
You've had all of your chances Slimes and you've let me down. It's been mostly a blast but I won't be a regular attendee any longer.
** I should preface this by saying that I am teetotal - no alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, "party" drugs, unlike probably everyone else who attends Slimelight, so I have a completely lucid, non-chemically inhibited / disinhibited perspective, plus I remember absolutely everything!
Music:
Following the amazing night of music in March the only way has been down. Aside from Jo the Waiter and around 30 minutes of tunes the rest of the night, the music was very mediocre. The headline act playing on the top floor were enjoyable, however.
Venue:
It is impossible to not like the venue. Electrowerkz is fab.
Still can't work out the deal with the "performers"... what exactly is this about? Live music or a bit of cabaret (as at Reptile) is great, but people in elaborate (often the same) costumes wandering around... I don't understand what they actually add to what used to be the best goth night in the UK.
Prices:
Same as last time: £6.70 for a single G&T if I recall.
Atmosphere:
Plenty of this. After a day of getting toasted watching a rich, entitled man put on a hat and sit in a chair (personally I took my kids to the cinema and then swimming to avoid all of the b-llocks) clearly most patrons were too off their faces to be polite so there was much pushing, shoving, barging on dance floors and in bar areas. Tiresome. If you can't handle whatever you are taking then f-ck off and take it far away from me or just grow the f-ck up. There were the usual muppets vaping on the dancefloors and when one guy did it right next to me a verbal threat of violins was sufficient for him to see the error of his ways and go elsewhere.
Summary:
Worst night I've ever had at Slimes and I have finally had enough. Might try again in 6 months but not before.

Review of Just Werkz
I'd been to this venue a few times prior and never realised there was room by the smoking gallery. It was a small room with a great sound system and for once not too loud. Why is this room not used more? It's brilliant. There were loads of characters, who were very friendly and a fire-eating drag act. The most I've been entertained yet at this venue. Keep on doing what you're doing. Will definitely be back.
