Review of XXXPLOSIVE Party by GRABBYS
The performers were excellent and could not be faulted. In fact, they were the best ever that I have seen in London. However, the organization by the FIRE staff was a farce. After the opening show, someone switched the stage lighting off, so that the next show by the gymnasts doing acrobatics was all in pitch black, so nobody could see anything. When the first show by the 3 erotic performers began, the two personnel behind the DJ boxes on the stage did not know how to put the music on. Thus for at least 5 minutes, the performers were just standing around on stage, whilst "technical staff" went up on the stage like blue-a**ed flies to try and fix the problem. If the staff are inexperienced in switching on the music, why did they not have a rehearsal beforehand, before the night even started ? The two fire dancers also did a gogo show, but not a single soul watched, because it was in pitch black. Who decided to switch stage lights out ? When the 3 erotic performers returned for a show with lasers from their gloves, this show was again sabotaged by the FIRE staff who had switched the stage lighting off. The Grabbys staff had no control over the lighting, and indeed they themselves expressed grave concern after that show. The bald headed man with glasses who wore spectacles and a "Grabbys" organiser badge, said he would have to find the technician. That "technician" who works for FIRE should be instantly dismissed for gross incompetence. Nowhere could he be found. There was a whole army of staff there, but you could not ask any of them anything, because nobody knew. A lot are presumably agency security staff. So who was taking responsibility ? Where is the manager ? There needs to be someone wearing a shirt with "DUTY MANAGER" emblazoned on their shirt at the back and at the front. And who can be seen by everyone, not hidden away in an office smoking. A huge effort had been made beforehand to construct a viewing platform on scaffolding. But I think no more than 200 came, and at £11, the door money was only £2200. That could not even pay for the flights of the performers from the U.S.A., let alone their hotels and their wages. Nor could it pay for the Grabbys entourage of quite a few people, who were all shocked by the atrocious organization at FIRE. Then there were DJs who had to be paid, and who do not come cheap. There was a female DJ on a platform at the side of the main floor, but it was not clear if we were listening to her music, or whether the Grabbys staff had brought their own pre-recorded music, since the shows had been choreographed to that music. As it was a Friday night, fewer people attend compared to Saturdays. But the clientele at Fire go there when a playroom is advertised, and there was no such advert. A HUGE FINANCIAL LOSS was made, and the management have only themselves to blame. I was told that the owner, Craig, is always at his club in Manchester, even though he lives in London. Like the Post Office, the incompetent culture starts right at the top. When Craig took over the Fridge many years ago, he spent a fortune on lasers, which did not bring a single customer in. One Easter at the Fridge, there was an Easter bunny show of 15 performers, but nobody could see them, because the incompetent staff did not know where the switch for the stage lighting was. The show had to be held in pitch black. And of course we all know why Craig had to give up the Fridge - HUGE FINANCIAL LOSSES from incompetence.
