About

The annual spooktacular Jamboree Halloween Party with ace gypsy blues act Bandini, the Cornwall King of the agricultural garage-gypsy sound, Julian Gaskell, backed by his screaming dukes of skiffle, and ace cabaret act Ethel Darling! Be prepared for a swooning, hair-raising feast, with fancy dress very much encouraged...

Bandini is pure, wild energy on stage. Described as “the bastard son of Tom Waits and Cab Calloway” by The Troubadour in London, he mentions Van Morrison, Dr.John, Tom Waits and The Clash among his main influences, which have brought him to blend jazz, blues, rock and gypsy into a dynamic live show.

Described by angry locals as the bastard son of Waits, Strummer, Reinhardt and Rachmaninov, Julian Gaskell’s music over the last 20 years has followed a wayward path of withering agricultural-folk, klezmer accordion, overly-lyrical punk, gypsy-jazz guitar, tangos, waltzes, rhumbas and skiffled-up boogie-woogie piano. The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, named after the Robert Tressell book, are his long-suffering band, ft. Thomas Pooley Tolkien Sharpe (banjo, piano, mandolin, vocals), Cally Gibson (viola and violin) Nigel Parsons (bass) and Matthew Collington (drums). “Gaskell really is an original - declamatory, vulpine vocals ranting and roaring his splendidly acrid, protestful lyrics over a glorious, urgent ramshackle garage blend of Balkan-Klezmerisms and French gypsy cafebilly” - fRoots

Ace cabaret act 'Love Juice' Ethel Darling grew up in Cornwall surrounded by street performers, musicians, clowns, puppeteers and circus artists. She is influenced by human nature, the instincts to do and say things and to react to the impulses that we are told not to follow.  Ethel trained at L'école Jacques Lecoq in Paris and has built a career in Clown. Tonight's act, Love Juice, is designed to provoke and delight. Having reached large audiences since its creation, Ethel says 'I'm amazed it's going down so well'!

Jamboree Food Option: Our ‘Arepatoire’ kitchen is open from 6pm serving a delicious mix of Italian/Colombian food for you to enjoy a pre-gig meal/snack if you wish!
