A guided walking discussion about fungi with Rights For Weeds.
This walk is suitable for all levels of mushroom forager. We'll be walking through the forest, finding and learning how to identify some edible, medicinal and interesting mushrooms. We might even find some poisonous ones.
You'll also get a general introduction to mushroom biology and their role in the ecosystem. Informed by what we've learned, we'll work together to discuss how to approach foraging in a way that works reciprocally with the land.
We can also chat about recipes, fungal folklore and history, bushcraft, their life cycles, growth patterns, their value to conservation models and how to integrate them into our lives.
Bring any questions and opinions you have.
ESSENTIAL INFO
Please read through all of the below before booking.
REGULATIONS
In accordance with local bylaws, we will not be picking and eating things, so no need to bring a basket. However, we'll discuss how to forage safely and sustainably. so that you can leave with enough confidence to gather mushrooms elsewhere.
TICKETS
Tickets for mushroom walks are non-refundable, and can't be transferred to a different date due to restrictions on group size. However, they are transferrable to another person. If you realise that you can’t make it and know someone else that could take your place, get in touch and we'll transfer your ticket to them.
There is one free place available on each walk for someone who is struggling financially. Priority goes to those with physical and/or mental disabilities, chronic illnesses, unpaid carers and others who struggle to work. This is given out on a trust basis (no questions asked.)
DM @rightsforweeds on Instagram and Facebook to claim it.
LOCATION
We don’t reveal our locations online. Locations will be confirmed two weeks before the event and emailed to participants.
We can guarantee that the event will be no more than an hour’s train out of London. There may be a short (>30 min) cycle or taxi ride after that. See below for info about lift sharing.
LIFT SHARE
If you plan on driving, lift shares are always really valued on mushroom walks. You will receive an email with full details on lift sharing.
ACCESSIBILITY
Unfortunately, this walk isn't wheelchair accessible as we'll be walking on uneven woodland terrain. We won’t be walking fast or far and there will be a lot of standing around and talking. You're welcome to bring a collapsible stool if you need to sit often.
If you have any health conditions that might affect you during the walk, you are still more than welcome, but please let us know so that we can be on the same page.
There are accessible plant walks being planned in the city, with subsidised places for those with accessibility needs. Get in touch if you'd like to know more.
FINAL NOTE
